As Ishita approached the front of her house, she rang the doorbell. Within moments, the door creaked open, revealing Ishika, her daughter, standing there with a curious look on her face. Behind her mother stood two unfamiliar faces. Ishika, unsure of who they were, assumed they must be friends of her mother. With a polite yet hesitant smile, she greeted them, "Namaste, Aunty!"
Anjali, the older woman, smiled warmly, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "Namaste, beta!" she replied in a gentle tone.
"Come inside, Anjali," Ishita said, gesturing them into the house as she led the way. They moved into the cozy living room, and she motioned for them to sit on the sofa. The atmosphere was welcoming, yet there was an undercurrent of something unspoken.
Karan, a tall young man with sharp features and a curious gaze, quietly looked around, taking in every detail of the room. The delicate decor, the family photos on the walls, and the faint scent of incense all painted a picture of the home.
“Do minute ruko, main abhi chai lekar aati hoon,” Ishita said with a smile, excusing herself to the kitchen. Just as she turned to leave, another figure appeared at the top of the stairs. It was Priya, dressed casually but with an air of elegance, her hair slightly disheveled from the day. As she descended, her eyes fell on Karan, and she froze, her face betraying her shock. Her heart skipped a beat—she hadn't expected to see him here.
Karan, who had been casually observing the room, suddenly locked eyes with Priya. His usually calm demeanor shifted, a flicker of surprise and something unspoken passing between them. It was as if time had slowed down, and for a brief moment, the world outside ceased to exist.
Ishita, unaware of the tension between them, broke the silence. "Priya, go and prepare tea for us," she instructed, her voice carrying an easy authority. Priya, still in a daze, nodded and headed toward the kitchen, but her thoughts were miles away. She couldn't shake the image of Karan from her mind, the unexpectedness of his presence lingering in her heart.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Karan had composed himself and turned his attention to Ishika, who was still standing nearby, curious and a little shy. Anjali and Ishita were engaged in light conversation, catching up on old times, their voices a gentle hum in the background.
Karan, noticing Ishika's presence, smiled warmly. "Which class are you in?" he asked, his voice friendly and inviting.
“11th, DPS Public School,” Ishika replied, her voice steady but with a hint of pride.
A flicker of recognition crossed Karan's face. "Oh, my younger brother is in the same school, and the same class—11th," he responded, his tone growing more animated.
Confused but intrigued, Ishika tilted her head slightly and asked, “Kya naam hai aapke bhai ka?”
"Aarish Rajvansh," Karan said, a proud smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Her eyes lit up with realization. "Acha, Yuvraj ka dost? Aarish?" she exclaimed, the connection dawning on her.
Karan nodded, clearly impressed. "Haan, tum janti ho unn sabko?" he asked, leaning in a little, his curiosity piqued.
“Haan, Aarish, Yuvraj, Rishi, Aayansh—ye sab mere hi class mein hain, sab,” Ishika explained, her voice growing more animated as she listed the names of her classmates.
Karan's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Tab toh bahut achi baat hai yaar," he said, laughing. “Toh baat hui hai usse aaj? Aaj toh pehla din tha 11th ka!”
Ishika shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips. “Nahi, meri kisi se baat nahi hui hai, par meri dost ke hue hai. Prachi ka bhai hai Yuvraj,” she replied, her tone casual yet with a hint of excitement.
