The sun was high in the sky, spreading warmth over the small town where Grant Ward had decided to start a new life. In his modest motel room, Grant woke early and began his daily routine. He had established a rigorous regimen to keep his physical and mental fitness in peak condition, knowing that his skills needed to be as sharp as they had been in his previous life.

After a simple breakfast, Grant prepared for training. He changed into athletic clothes and sturdy sneakers, heading to a nearby park to do some exercise. The park was quiet, with a few people playing tennis or walking their dogs. Grant headed to an open area and began a series of exercises.

He began with deep stretches, preparing his muscles for the intense work that lay ahead. Then he began sprinting, running from one point in the park to another at an impressive speed. The feel of the wind on his face and the thud of his feet against the ground were familiar and invigorating. Each run was a reminder of his strength and discipline.

After the sprints, Grant engaged in a strength workout. He used an outdoor exercise area, performing push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups. He pushed himself to the limit, each movement executed with precision and technique reminiscent of his days as a sergeant.

By late morning, Grant had decided it was time to brush up on his firearms skills. He had researched and found a local shooting range that was known for its good reputation and for keeping its equipment in excellent condition. Knowing that firearms handling would be essential to his future pursuits, he headed to the range, prepared to regain the proficiency he had in his past life.

The range was a well-maintained space with a number of practice areas and a well-stocked gun shop. Grant walked in and was greeted by a middle-aged instructor, a man with a firm posture and an observant gaze.

"Hello, can I help you with anything?" the instructor asked, wiping his hands on a rag.

Grant smiled and replied, "Hello, yes. I'd like to spend some time practicing at the shooting range. I have some prior knowledge, but I need to review and brush up on my skills."

The instructor nodded and led Grant to the practice area. "Okay, we have several guns available. I'll show you the basics, and then you can choose whichever you prefer."

Grant watched as the instructor demonstrated the proper way to handle and load a pistol. He paid attention to the details, even though many of them were familiar to him. The instructor then handed Grant a pistol and pointed to one of the shooting lanes.

"Let's start with some basic shots to make sure your technique is on point," the instructor said as Grant put on ear protection and goggles.

Grant positioned himself on the shooting lane, adjusting the gun in his hands. He knew accuracy was crucial, so he took a deep breath and focused on the target in front of him. With the practice he'd had, the movements came naturally. He lined up his sights, fired, and the shots were accurate, hitting the center of the target.

The instructor looked at him approvingly. "Very good. It looks like you've got a good foundation. If you need any tips or adjustments, I'll be here to help."

Grant nodded in appreciation and continued to practice, working on different distances and target types. He focused on improving his firing speed and accuracy. Each shot was a confirmation of his skill and knowledge. The feeling of being in control, of having the ability to master any situation, was comforting and familiar.

After an hour of intense practice, Grant decided to take a break. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and approached the instructor, who was evaluating the targets.

"Do you have any feedback for me?" Grant asked, a little breathless but pleased.

The instructor smiled. "Your performance was impressive. Your shots are well-aligned and your technique is solid. The only suggestion I have is that you continue to practice quickly transitioning between targets and re-adjusting your sights. It can make a big difference in high-pressure situations."

Grant thanked him and, after a brief conversation, decided to explore the weapons available in the store. He spent some time examining different models and accessories, making sure he could find the one that would best suit his needs.

Later, back in his motel room, Grant reflected on the day's training. He knew there was still much to do to fully prepare himself for the challenges that lay ahead. His goal was not only to regain the skill he had, but also to expand his knowledge and adapt his techniques to his new life.

Sitting at his desk, Grant began to jot down notes on the day's training, including point his strengths and areas for improvement. He planned a new training routine, incorporating the instructor's suggestions and adjusting his approach as needed.

The next night, Grant sat at the motel dining room table, preparing a simple meal while reviewing his study material. Physical and weapons training were just part of his preparation. He also knew he needed to keep his mind sharp and strategically prepared for the future.

As he ate, Grant reflected on his new life. Each day was a step closer to his ultimate goal—to protect his family and change the future for the better. With renewed determination and refined skills, he was more confident than ever in his ability to meet the challenges that lay ahead.
