And here I thought I was just playing a game.
Turns out, I've got a bigger audience than I thought. I feel eyes on me, but not the usual ones. This isn't Aizawa's calculating gaze or Bakugo's suspicious glare. No, this feels different. Darker.
I glance up toward the tree line, scanning through the shadows. A slow, crawling sensation runs down my spine. They're watching. And not just any random group of villains.
I can practically feel Shigaraki's presence, like a chill in the air. It's unsettling but also... kind of thrilling? I mean, the guy is infamous, and here he is, watching me. That's gotta mean something, right?
Then, from the shadows, they step forward. The League of Villains.
There's Dabi, his smirk as hot as the blue flames he's ready to throw. Toga's bouncing on her toes, eyes wide with excitement. Twice is just being... well, Twice, muttering to himself as usual. But it's Shigaraki that grabs my attention. His red eyes pierce through the darkness, locked onto me like I'm the most fascinating thing he's seen in ages.
Shigaraki: Midoriya...
His voice is low, almost like he's trying not to startle a stray animal. I hate to admit it, but he's got this weird, creepy charm about him. The guy's a walking nightmare, but there's something... intriguing.
Me: Shigaraki... long time no see....how was the hiding after the USJ failure?
I keep my tone light, casual, as if we're old pals just running into each other on the street. Honestly, I'm more curious than anything. Why now? Why are they here, watching this little game of ours?
Shigaraki's grin widens, but it's not friendly. It's the kind of smile you get when you've figured out how to twist the knife.
Shigaraki: You've been having fun, haven't you? Playing both sides... pulling the strings from the shadows. You've been doing exactly what a villain would.
Touché.
I shrug, a grin of my own spreading across my face. He's not wrong. I have been playing this game like a villain. And now the real villains are impressed.
Me: Well, there's no rule against it, right? Besides, it's more fun this way.
I see Bakugo's eyes flick over to me, suspicion deepening. Aizawa shifts, his attention split between the League and me. They're catching on, but not fast enough.
Shigaraki steps forward, and I can feel the air grow heavy with tension. His gaze sharpens, and I know exactly what's coming next.
Shigaraki: You'd make a good villain, Midoriya. Ever think about it? We could use someone like you.
Ah, there it is.
As tempting as that sounds...
I tilt my head, pretending to think about it. Sure, the offer has a twisted appeal to it, but who said I'm ready to trade sides?
Me: I don't know, Shigaraki. You guys don't seem like the type to play fair. And besides, I'm kind of in the middle of something here.
Shigaraki's grin falters, just for a second, and that's all I need to see. He wants me on his side, but he's not used to being told no.
Shigaraki: Think it over. You're wasting your talents playing hero.
I laugh, but it's not the nice kind.
Me: Hero, villain... labels. I'm just here to win.
The tension thickens, and I can tell Bakugo is itching to say something, to blow up the situation—literally. But before anyone can make a move, Shigaraki's smile returns, more patient this time.
