MALIA'S POV:

It was early evening time in New York, rain drops were trickling down the windows, creating a heavy, gloomy atmosphere. I was sat at the desk in my dorm room completing an assignment on my computer, I rested my head against my left hand, running my fingers through my dark curls. I tapped my pen stressfully against the half full coffee cup on my right. It was actually my sister who gave me that mug, she made it in pottery class at school a while ago. The handle was a bit chipped and whenever I drank out of it, nine times out of ten the drink would dribble out onto my chin. However, I didn't care about how impractical it was, knowing it was crafted with love was perfectly good enough for me. Ivory had painted lots of pretty flowers on the outside, which I absolutely adored. Truth be told, I hadn't really been focusing on my work whatsoever. My mind was far too preoccupied with other thoughts. Ever since my first shift at the movie theatre, I haven't been able to shake that breath-takingly gorgeous girl from my brain. Kylie, I think her name was. I heard her boyfriend call her that at least. I don't know what it was about Kylie but talking to her felt like the most exciting thing I've ever done, not that I have many other crazy exciting experiences to compare it to... but still! The way she looked at me with those alluring brown eyes filled my entire stomach with butterflies, I felt so nervous yet weirdly comfortable around her...I don't know how to explain it. But when I saw that guy give her the teddy bear, make her smile and her cheeks flush pink, it was as if Ghostface himself had just jumped out of the advertisement poster on the wall and stabbed me through the heart with a dagger. I probably should've seen something like that coming though, after all, who wouldn't want to be with that girl, she was perfect.

I heard coughing and spluttering coming from my dorm mate Juliana's bed, she was wrapped up tightly in her duvet cover. There was a really bad cold going around right now and she'd unfortunately been one of many students to get struck down by it. I spun my wheelie chair around to face her bed, Jules was facing away from my side of the room and looked like a huge blob of blankets from my view.

"How are you feeling?" I asked, walking over to her bed.

A few sneezes later, she rolled over and replied "Not good. I'm so c-cold.."

She must've been seriously unwell if she was still feeling chilly with all those blankets, I thought. "Aw I'm sorry. Is there anything I can get you?"

She sniffled and shook her head, I assumed she just wanted to go back to sleep. I nodded and began walking back to my study area when I heard the sick girl's voice say something. "Wait, Malia" she said pleadingly, "there is something you can do."

My attention was back on her, "Hm? Tell me." I said.

"I have a.." she stopped momentarily to cough, "a history essay to hand in in two days time. There's this book I really need, to help me with my research. But it's not available online, I was going to go and check it out from the library but..." she sneezed violently again and tried to catch her breath to continue speaking, but I could tell it was difficult for her so I cut in.

"But you can't because you're way too sick." I finished her sentence, Juliana nodded sadly. "Okay well I'll go and check it out for you now, how does that sound?"

"A-are you sure? It's pouring really hard outside.." she replied, looking guilty and worried.

I smiled and reassured her, "I don't mind, seriously. If it's going to help you write your essay then I'll gladly get it for you."

She gave me a weak appreciative smile, "Thank you. I don't know what I'd do without you Malia."

I stroked Juliana's blanket to comfort her. "I'll be back soon, okay?" I told her.
