I once belonged to the highest order of angels. I was second in rank after Lucifer, until the rebellion occurred!
Everything happened very quickly. Before I knew it, I was beside him, with my sword in hand, ready!
Obedience, faith, self-sacrifice. These were the principles that stemmed from love!
One nod from Lucifer was enough to unleash the whole Order! Because I was almost equal to Lucifer, I could communicate with him through thought! He read my thoughts and I read his! When I saw what he was thinking, I hesitated for a moment, a brief moment, because our job was to maintain and ensure peace and order in heaven!
Now, however, the most beloved and closest Order of Angels to the Father would rebel!
In Lucifer's mind, I saw the reason for this act; His excessive love for the Father.
We, angels had been close to Him from the beginning! A love of centuries couldn't be worth less than His love for humans, the Newborns, who were mortal, weak, inferior, fragile, and ephemeral, with only a few years of life! He loved them more than us!
He gave them the privilege to become even gods if they wanted to, to reach divinity, while we would remain eternal angels, unable to ever become something higher! We, who were created first, who were infinitely better than humans! In the end, we would simply be their servants since they could become much higher than us!
They were created to steal the love of our Father! They were our hated enemies! The only obstacle for us, which is why we had to destroy them, to eliminate them, to be His only children!
This was the truth I knew, that I read in Lucifer's mind! This truth he let me see, and this truth the rest of the Order learned!
In a very short time - certainly by human standards - everything happened so quickly, the first thoughts, the rebellion, the revolution, the war, and the fall!
All of this happened in the time it takes for a human eye to see a lightning bolt in the sky! Because that's exactly how we fell, like lightning that starts from the sky and ends on earth! First, he fell, my leader!
I was beside him, watching! I was so faithful to him, so obedient, I loved him so much that even in our fall, it was enough for me to be with him. I would follow him wherever he went! I didn't care where we were going, as long as we were together!
But as we fell, I read his thoughts and saw that his hatred for humans was growing! He cursed them because he lost his place in heaven because of them and was falling, trapped on earth! His hatred, however, was not limited to humans! The more he fell, the more he isolated himself and hated everyone and everything, even... us!
He harbored an endless hatred, malice, and rage for everyone, for the entire world, for the heavens and the earth! Even for me! I was shocked. I was hurt.
I immediately realized the situation I was in and, thanks to my quick reflexes, understood that where I was heading would be my ruin.
I was abandoning the Father's love and following someone who now hated me, to a place I had no idea what it was like!
As he fell, I saw Lucifer changing form and his once perfect features becoming distorted! The uglier and more hateful his thoughts became, the more his appearance changed externally! His appearance was so dark, horrible, and terrifying that even I was scared!
Would I end up like that too?
No! For a few fractions of a second, I stopped in time!
At the last moment, I managed to stop on the ground on my knees, and with a thunderous "STOP!", I managed to halt the fall of several from my Order!
We all watched Lucifer's fall into the depths of the earth, along with the rest of our brothers, disappearing with him!
We saw them falling to their doom, looking at us with rage and envy because we were saved at the last moment and didn't fall with them!
We saw them disappear and be confined to an eternal prison, Hell! We watched in horror their transformation and demise!
What stopped me was repentance! I remembered the Father's love and wanted to return to Him! I didn't want to perish with someone who betrayed my love! With me, the rest of the Order, the few who remained, repented! His patience and love forgave us. Unfortunately, we fell to the earth!
We were now exiled from heaven and unwanted in Hell!
Unworthy of the Father's love and traitors to Lucifer! We were in the disfavor of both!
Of course, we weren't interested in gaining Lucifer's favor but God's! So, I prayed to the Father to ask what we should do to atone for our fall and become worthy of His love!
As a Father who knew well all His creations, and the eternal war that Lucifer would start against humans, the first beings he hated so much, He gave us one and only mission: to remain on Earth as protectors of humans!
We were Terrestrial Angels! He informed us that soon the forces of Darkness would regroup and be unleashed on Earth. The target would be humans! We were the only ones who could fight Lucifer's army.
Angels against angels! So, we would have to fight those who were once our brothers! We would become the Guardians of humans! Only this way could we earn back the lost Paradise!
We accepted our mission! I never forgot that I had to serve and protect those because of whom I was on Earth! Those because of whom I fell!
We wandered the Earth, observing these weak beings! How they were born, how they grew up, how they lived, and how they died! Watching humans, we marveled at the Father's omnipotence, wisdom, love, and mercy!
We admired even more when we saw humans, weak as they were, having such tremendous and unshakable faith that I thought maybe they were superior even to some angels, if not equal!
Then I understood that our mission had a dual purpose. Apart from protecting them, the goal was to get to know them up close and see the treasure they hid inside them. This way, they would give us even more reason to protect them. Not just out of duty and as a means to reclaim our lost Paradise, but to protect them out of love for them, because they deserved to be protected!
They couldn't see us. We were invisible, intangible, luminous forces! Eternal, immortal, incorruptible! Powerful beings with angelic beauty and grace!
After our fall, we committed no disobedience and would never again! We became unshakeable against evil!
None of us ever fell into any offense!
No one made mistakes.
But I made one!
The greatest one...!
