quick note:
Sorry this chapter took a little long, with school starting and everything I didnt have a lot of time to work on this and didn't want to rush it out. hope u enjoy lemme know what u think <3
"We thought it'd be fun," Darius began, setting the mood for his campfire horror tale.
"We thought we'd be safe, but..."
"We didn't realize the... horror waiting for us on the island," Darius continued, his voice dropping to a whisper.
"Claws,"
"Teeth,"
"Screaming,"
"So much screaming," he finished, his voice rising.
"H-how much screaming?" Ben asked, clinging to my arm and clearly unnerved.
I sighed, glancing at Ben. Pretty sure this is supposed to be the other way around. Darius was in the middle of telling a chilling campfire story, and Ben was ruining the vibe.
"Shh! He's getting to the good part," Kenji hissed, leaning closer to the fire to warm himself.
Darius, hood up, leaned in and continued, "The T-rex stalked closer. Her jaws opened wide." He demonstrated by widening his arms and gaping his mouth.
At that moment, the flash and beep of a phone interrupted. All eyes turned to Brooklyn. "What? It's for the vlog," she said dismissively. "Keep telling your story."
Darius sighed and pulled his hood back up, trying to get back into the zone. "Oh, here we go," Kenji said, bracing himself for the climax.
"The T-rex sta-"
"Dang! Out of space. Wait, I'm sorry, hold on," Brooklyn interrupted again. "I just don't want to delete my selfie from Everest, you know?" She flashed the photo to me and Sammy. I had to admit, it was a pretty badass shot.
Darius, looking exasperated, said, "Maybe I should start over."
"NO! In fact, you can just stop," Ben cried, still clutching my arm with a grasp that was getting increasingly uncomfortable.
I rolled my eyes. "Dude, chill. He's not even telling the story right now, and why is your grip so tight?" I muttered, surprised by Ben's clinginess. For a nerd, he sure had a strong grip.
Without warning, Darius picked up where he left off. "So, the T-rex stalked-"
"Shouldn't we call Yazmina over? I bet she'd love this story," Sammy suggested, cutting Darius off for the third time.
Darius groaned and flopped back onto the bench, now lying down. "Maybe she wants to be alone," Brooklyn suggested, her eyes still focused on her book.
"I don't understand," Sammy said, looking puzzled.
"Well, you know how sometimes people just want to be left ALONE," I explained, glancing at Ben, who was still shaking from the story.
Sammy stared at me for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Y/N, you're hilarious!"
I looked back at her, deadpan. "Haha, right. Totally joking."
"I think she's just shy and doesn't know how to make camp friends," Sammy said, trying to be helpful.
Just then, a crack of thunder rumbled nearby, followed by a sudden downpour. Rain began to drench us instantly.
"Maybe we should head inside," Sammy suggested, as Ben was already sprinting towards the cabin.
"Way ahead of you!" he yelled, already halfway there.
"He's faster than he looks," I huffed, surprised.
