Third person's pov
The moment Taehyung’s low, growled “Mate” filled the air, the entire camp froze. Every soldier, every guard, even the trees seemed to still in the wake of the Alpha’s declaration. Eyes widened, mouths parted, breaths were held in.
Hyunjin, however, was the only one who didn’t flinch. His sharp eyes flicked between Taehyung and Jungkook, and there was a knowing look in his gaze, as if he had been expecting this.
The rest of the soldiers, the other alphas and betas, reacted instinctively. One by one, they knelt to the ground, heads bowed, offering their submission to the Alpha’s claim. It was primal, an instinct older than any of them could comprehend. The Alpha had found his mate. It was law. It was nature.
Jungkook stood rooted in place, his chest rising and falling rapidly, his breath catching in his throat. His body felt like it was burning from the inside out, every nerve alive and raw. The heat that radiated from Taehyung was suffocating, overwhelming. His scent filled the air, and Jungkook’s knees nearly buckled beneath him.
He tried to steady himself, but the pull was too strong, the connection too deep. His omega instincts screamed at him to submit, to yield, to let himself be claimed.
Taehyung’s golden eyes never left Jungkook. His entire being was focused on the omega standing before him, his mate, his other half. The need, the possessive desire, thrummed through his veins.
He began to move towards Jungkook as if he was the only thing in the world that mattered. No one dared to move, not even to breathe too loudly.
Jungkook’s heart was hammering in his chest, each beat echoing in his ears as Taehyung approached. He swallowed thickly, his throat dry, his legs trembling beneath him. He wanted to move, to say something, but his voice was trapped in his chest.
Taehyung stopped just inches away, towering over him, his golden eyes made Jungkook’s stomach flip. He tilted his head, looking down at the omega as if he were something precious, something he had been searching for his entire life.
His hand twitched at his side, the need to touch, to claim, almost unbearable.
When Taehyung finally spoke, his voice was deep and guttural, “Mine.”
Jungkook’s eyes fluttered, his lips parting. His entire body went limp, the overwhelming force of Taehyung’s Alpha aura too much to handle. His knees buckled, and for a brief moment, the world tilted on its axis.
But before he could hit the ground, Taehyung’s strong arms were around him, catching him. The Alpha cradled him against his chest. His chest heaved, his breath hot against Jungkook’s hair as he pulled the omega closer, tighter.
Taehyung lowered his head, pressing his face into the crook of Jungkook’s neck. He inhaled deeply, his body trembling with the effort of keeping control, his mind clouded with the desperate need to mark, to bite, to claim.
The scent of his mate filled his lungs, soothing the wild beast inside him, but only just. His lips brushed against Jungkook’s skin, his breath warm and ragged as he whispered again, “Mine.”
Jungkook was unconscious, his body completely relaxed in Taehyung’s arms, but even in his sleep, his omega instincts responded. His head lolled to the side, exposing more of his neck to the Alpha, and a soft, unconscious whimper escaped his lips. Taehyung’s grip tightened at the sound, a low growl rumbling in his chest as he nuzzled deeper into Jungkook’s scent gland, inhaling greedily.
The soldiers, still kneeling, dared not lift their heads. They could feel the raw power in the air, the feral energy that Taehyung exuded. None of them moved a muscle, not even Hyunjin, though his eyes remained on the scene before him. He had known this would come, sooner or later. But seeing it—feeling it—was something else entirely.
