The cell was dim, the flickering torchlight casting long, dancing shadows on the walls. Elena stood in front of Sykes, her posture commanding and her eyes coldly calculating. Sykes, seated on the floor with his back against the rough wall, looked up at her with a mix of confusion and resignation. Elena's next words were sharp and deliberate, designed to cut through his remaining doubts.
"You want to know why I faked my death, Sykes?" Elena's voice was chillingly calm. "It was to escape the clutches of those who sought to control me and to prepare for my return. The world believed I was dead, but it was all a deception. I used the chaos to my advantage, and now I'm in a position to reclaim what's rightfully mine."
Sykes's gaze was steady, but his mind was a whirl of confusion. "And Don Lino? What was your relationship with him?"
Elena's expression hardened. "Lino was never more than a tool for me. He thought I loved him, but that was a façade. I used him to secure my position in the mafia, to gain access to powerful networks, and to ensure that I had heirs like Lenny and Frankie, who could continue my legacy."
Her words cut deep, but Sykes barely flinched. He was too overwhelmed by the revelation that his own feelings had been manipulated. Elena continued, her voice taking on a colder edge.
"Lino is a manipulator. He breaks hearts to serve his own interests. He did it to me, and now he's done it to you. I want you to use those feelings of betrayal and heartbreak. Go back to him, convince him that you still care, that you're loyal. Report back to me with every detail. If he starts falling for you again and even enters a relationship with you, play the part, but keep me informed."
Sykes's hands trembled as he took the contract Elena handed him. The document was filled with legalese and stipulations that bound him to her will. The weight of the decision pressed heavily on his shoulders, but the promise of revenge and a place of power were tempting.
"Sign it," Elena commanded. "This will ensure that I have control over you, and that you are bound to my service. Once you've performed well, you will have a place at my side, as my right hand. But for now, your role is to deceive Lino, use him, and report back to me."
With a deep breath and a heavy heart, Sykes signed the contract. The ink felt like a heavy shackle around his soul. His mind was a tempest of conflicting emotions—anger, betrayal, and a twisted sense of purpose.
Elena's eyes glinted with satisfaction as she watched Sykes sign the contract. "Good. Remember, this is your chance for revenge, and for a new beginning. Use your pain to manipulate Lino. Show him what it feels like to be used and betrayed."
Sykes nodded, though his heart was sinking. "I don't want anything to do with him anymore. I can't face him. I feel so betrayed."
Elena's smile was a cruel twist. "That's exactly what he does. He uses people, breaks their hearts, and moves on. You're not the first to be hurt by him, and you won't be the last. Use those feelings to your advantage. Make him believe in your loyalty while you feed me the information I need."
As she finished, Elena turned to leave the cell. Levi, the barracuda, stood by the entrance, his eyes cold and unreadable. Elena's gaze met his, and she spoke in a low, conspiratorial tone.
