At first, it wasn't bad. They could walk mostly upright, moving through relatively spacious sections of the cave. Hitch kept chatting, trying to keep the mood light, while Annie led the way with her usual calm and focused demeanor.

"You know," Hitch said with a grin, "you'd make a great tour guide. Always so serious, pointing out the best ways to avoid tripping over rocks."

Annie didn't look back, but her voice was softer than usual. "I think you get bored of me quickly."

"Hey!" Hitch laughed. "I'd enjoy your company, no matter what."

They reached a narower passage where they need to crawl on their stomachs. The walls were so close that it felt like they were being pressed from all sides. Hitch wriggled forward, glancing back at Annie, who was close behind.

"You okay?" Annie's voice came from just behind her.

"Yeah, I'm good," Hitch said, though her voice was a bit shaky. "As long as you keep an eye on my rear, I'll be fine."

Annie's response was a quiet chukle, making Hitch smile despite the tight space. The cave's claustophobic feel was made bearable by the warmth of Annie's presence and her calm reasurance.
