Taylor arrived at the apartment she shared with Joe in a quiet part of gray, misty London. She remembered the first time she had set foot in the place, visiting the city to meet Joe's parents, a long three years ago.

London, 2017

"Joe, what's your mom's favorite chocolate?" Taylor asked nervously.

"Tay, love, relax. She's going to adore you; there's no way she couldn't." The blond smiled and kissed the tip of her perfect nose. "I love you, and that's all that matters, okay? Now let me show you where the love of your life lives." He winked, and Taylor blushed.

Taylor loved how the house screamed Joe's name. It was cozy, elegant, and with him there, it felt like home.

After a respectable tour, Taylor and Joe got ready to meet the Alwyns. Meeting the parents of someone you love is always nerve-wracking.

"Ready, darling?"

"Yes." She wiped her sweaty hands on the burgundy red dress she was wearing, paired with long black boots.

"You look so beautiful. I'm the luckiest man in the world." He held her waist and placed a kiss on her full lips.

"Thank you, love. You look handsome too."

"Shall we?"

(...)

"Okay, this is it. Can I ring the doorbell?"

"Mhm." The blonde responded anxiously, but before her boyfriend could press the button, an older woman opened the door with a wide smile.

"Joseph, my son!" She grabbed his shoulders and pulled him into a tight hug. Taylor found the scene adorable.

"Mom, don't embarrass me in front of my girlfriend." The woman immediately released him and turned her attention to the singer.

"Oh my god, what a gorgeous woman. Hello, dear, how are you?" She hugged Taylor, then grabbed Joe's arm. "Look, son, she looks like an american singer. So beautiful."

"Thank you, Mrs. Alwyn," Taylor smiled at her future mother-in-law. "You're beautiful too."

"Oh, stop, dear, I'm old now, my beauty is long gone," she chuckled. "Come on, kids, let's go inside." She pulled the young couple into the house."

Looking back now, Taylor felt a chill run down her spine as she crossed the threshold. She could hear the sound of cracks breaking in her mind. Cracks in the glass dome that encased the strong rose that had grown from their love.

"Joe? Joseph?" She called out, setting the cats down. "Is anyone home?" Taylor heard voices coming from the living room. When she entered, she saw her boyfriend with a brunette woman, their backs turned to her. "Hello?"

"Taylor! You're back!" He quickly stood up and went to the blonde. "I didn't hear you come in. How was the trip?" He smiled tightly and kissed her cheek.

"Good. Who's she?" Taylor asked, slightly apprehensive.

"I'm Alison, a friend of Joe's." The woman smiled at Taylor from her spot on the couch.

"Yeah, well, Alison and I are going to be co-stars in a series; we're playing the leads."

"Oh, I see," Taylor replied, still feeling suspicious.

"When we first met, Alison told me she liked your music, Tay. Isn't that cool?" Joe tried to sound casual.

"Hmm, actually, I'm not really a fan," Alison interjected. "You know, darling, your songs are kind of boring and repetitive, aren't they? The lyrics are hard for anyone to understand."

"Well, sweetheart, maybe you don't understand them because you lack comprehension skills and taste, but don't worry, millions of others seem to enjoy my music." Taylor smiled tightly and turned to Joe. "I'll be in the bedroom; we'll talk later."

"Okay, goodnight," Joe responded, kissing her cheek.

"Goodnight."

As Taylor entered her room, followed by Benji, she wondered if she was being overly paranoid or if it was normal for this woman to be in her house at 3 a.m. while she was away.

"Did you die, or did you just forget to tell me you got there?"
"If it's the second one, I'm blocking you."

"Well, I guess I died."

Trav Chad ❣️:
"Idiot. Did you arrive safely, Swifty?"

You:
"Yeah. Isn't it, like, 11 p.m. there? Aren't you going to sleep?"

Trav Chad ❣️:
"10 p.m. I stayed up to make sure you got home safe."

You:
"Oh, Trav, you didn't have to."

Trav Chad ❣️:
"Of course I did, you dork."

You:
"Well, now that you know I'm safe, go to bedddd."

Trav Chad ❣️:
"Okay, sarg. Goodnight 💙💤😴"

You:
"Goodnight 💜🌷🌟"

Taylor smiled at her phone, thinking of her friend, but she didn't have much time to linger. Exhausted, she fell asleep immediately, still wearing the sweatshirt she had traveled in.

(...)

"She's just a friend, Taylor, for god's sake. Why are you so stressed out?" Joe said, raising his voice slightly.

"A friend? What kind of friend comes over at 3 a.m. when your fiancée is out of town?" Taylor shouted back.

"As if you don't do the same with your friend Kelce!" he yelled.

"I've known Travis for years, and you know I feel nothing for him. You know how hard I fight for this relationship because I love you."

"I love you too, Taylor, damn it. But you make everything so difficult! I would never cheat on you—how could you think that?"

"Promise me, Joe. Promise me there's nothing going on between you two." Taylor lowered her voice, sitting on the couch and burying her face in her hands. Joe sat beside her, gently rubbing her back.

"I promise, my love. There's nothing going on."

"I need you, Joe. I need you with me."

"I'm sorry, princess. I've been awful lately, but I'll do better, I swear." He kissed her lips, and she clung to his embrace as if it could fix everything.

"Please, I need you so much." She cried into his chest.

"Shh, it's going to be okay. Forgive me."

In the next chapter, we'll jump ahead a bit. This fanfic focuses on Taylor and Travis's relationship, not Taylor and Joe's, so these early chapters were just to give you guys a sense of the dynamics.
