Chapter 4 ~ pain

I woke up in the nurse's office. My head was aching.
“Hey, uh, what happened-”
She interrupted me.
“You were too exhausted to be able to sustain being injured. Your body just shut down on you.”
Oh yeah. I had broken my arm.
Looking down at my arm, I saw that the purple-ish color that was previously there wasn't there anymore. Instead, there were little scars here and there throughout my arm.
“I was able to heal you while you were out cold.”
I nodded my head in understanding.
“Wait, what time is it?” I questioned.
“It's 2:00. You don't get out of school until another hour and fifty.” She replied.
The room grew silent as I wondered what I was going to do next.
“Can I leave for class now?”
“Do you feel alright?”
I nodded.
“Then go. I'm not going to make you stay unless you're not feeling your best.”
She gives me a kind smile before I get up and turn to the door. I felt tired, most likely because the nurses' healing tends to do that. I found that out after my entry exam.

As I walked the halls, there was this dampening silence. Nobody was moving around in the long, usually cramped hall, and it felt strange. In middle school, there were always kids skipping and wandering the halls. These people here must be dedicated to becoming heroes. It was a good thing, though, because there has been a decline in heroes over the years.
I moved my hand up to the classroom door.
Hoping the class was in there, I knocked three times on the tall, wooden structure in front of me.
I waited for a moment, and then it opened.
Everybody was staring at me as I entered the room.
“So, how are you feeling?” Denki asked.
“He's clearly feeling well since he's back in here, dunce head!” Kachan yelled.
“Calm down.” Aizawa said sternly while casting a mean glance at Bakugou.
Bakugo rolled his eyes at the teacher but obeyed.
“Well.. I.. I'm here now.”  I managed to speak.
I never liked public speaking. or any kind of speaking for that matter. Unless it was with Kachan. I always seemed to have better conversations with him, more than anybody else I've known. We would start conversations about the most random things; even carrots.
I hadn't realized I was zoned out until I heard Aizawa call my name.
“Midoria?” Aizawa spoke from behind his desk, slightly concerned.
“huh? Oh, yeah. Sorry.”

I headed to sit at my desk again, Kachan staring at me as I walked past.
What is going on in his head? He's been acting.. strange lately. The fact that he's helped me out so much and seems to be changing the way he acts is all quite strange to me.
Well, the way he acts has changed specifically for me. He's been treating everyone else differently. Could it mean something?
“hey, izuku- could you help me with the second problem?” ochako asks, walking up to my desk with her math work in her hand.
“sure.” I replied, turning to help her.

The rest of the day, the question was in my mind. Could his sudden attitude change really mean something? I was on the bus, the bustling energy too much for my introverted self to handle. The sky was bland today, nothing in the air besides very few birds. The majority of the trees we passed were practically bare. I found it surprising how quickly the leaves fell.
I opened my phone as the bus moved against the road, trying to quickly bring everyone in the bus to the next stop.
Curiosity got the best of me, and I wanted to get my question answered. I had decided to use the only reliable source I knew was available: Google.
Clicking on the app icon, I typed my question into the search bar.
Every. Single. Site. Had a different answer. Some said he was becoming distant, while others had suggested he was even catching feelings.
I sighed and turned off my phone. That wasn't very helpful, because now I have even more questions.
Maybe I could ask Denki for his opinion tomorrow at the bus stop. That seemed like a good idea.
The bus had suddenly started to increase in velocity. I was puzzled because it felt as if the driver was going over the speed limit.
The bus went over a sudden speed bump, and since the speed was so high and I was at the back of the bus, I went flying into the air, almost hitting my head on the roof of the large white vehicle.
As that happened, people screamed out of pure terror at the painful sound the bus made as it went over the speed bump. Everyone was panicking, but the bus driver was simply laughing.
Everybody else started laughing at the situation once they had realized it wasn't a dire one.

I had finally made it home after my short walk from the nearest bus stop.
Opening the door to my house, I waved to my mom and went into my room.
I did my typical routine and headed off to bed.

I awoke the next day feeling refreshed from the sleep I had gotten. I got ready for school, got a cup of coffee, and headed out of the house and to the bus stop.

“Hey buddy! You look better today!”
Denki said.
“Thank you.”
I paused for a moment, trying to remember what I was going to ask him.
“Oh! So, I have a little situation going on, and I need your help with it.”
Denki nodded, signaling for me to keep talking.
“As of recently, I've noticed that Kachan has been acting strangely around me. He's been nicer and has even gone out of his way to help me. Which is something he usually never did.”
“‘Usually never did?’ How long have you known him?”
“Since… grade school, I believe.”
“When did you notice this sudden change in behavior?”
“A few days ago.”
“Hmm…”
There was a short silence for a moment as Denki thought.
“I personally believe that he may have feelings for you and is just showing it through small acts of affection.”
“Oh- really?” Despite how strangely specific his answer was, it was rather convincing.
Did Kachan like me? Was I even gay?
“Yeah, really. Kirishima has seen the way he looks at you.”
I blushed slightly in remembrance to what happened yesterday.
“you're blushing!” Denki announces, making my face flush an even deeper red.
“You're embarrassing me!” I shouted.
“And I don't even know if I'm gay!”
“Well, you never know until you try!”
Denki says, walking to the bus as its doors open. I ran after him to make sure my spot next to him didn't get stolen.
