As they drove, Jack's silence was unnerving. Emilia's questions swirled in her mind, but he seemed lost in thought.
Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. "How do you know Edward?" she asked, her voice breaking the silence.
Jack's gaze flicked to hers, his eyes narrowing. "I've been watching him," he said, his tone low and deadly. "I know what he's capable of."
Emilia's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?"
Jack's jaw clenched. "Edward's obsession with you is just the tip of the iceberg. He's got a dark past, Emilia. One filled with violence and destruction."
Emilia felt a chill run down her spine. She had suspected as much, but hearing it from Jack's lips made it all too real.
"Why are you helping me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jack's gaze locked onto hers, his eyes burning with intensity. "Because I know what it's like to be trapped in darkness," he said. "And I won't let that happen to you."
Emilia's heart fluttered. There was something about Jack that drew her in, something that made her trust him.
As they drove, the city gave way to rolling hills and dense forests. Emilia felt a sense of unease creeping in.
"Where are we going?" she asked, her voice laced with worry.
Jack's gaze never wavered from the road. "Somewhere safe," he said. "Somewhere Edward can't find you."
But as they turned onto a dirt path, Emilia's doubts grew. Was she trading one prison for another?
Emilia's gaze dropped, her heart racing with conflicting emotions. She felt a spark of attraction towards Jack, but a part of her still yearned for Edward.
Jack's eyes narrowed, as if sensing her turmoil. "You're still in love with him, aren't you?" he asked, his voice low and husky.
Emilia's cheeks flushed, but she couldn't deny it. "I don't know," she whispered. "I feel so confused."
Jack's expression softened, his eyes filled with understanding. "You're torn between your feelings for Edward and your fear of him," he said. "But know this, Emilia - I'll never hurt you like he did."
Emilia's heart skipped a beat. Could she trust Jack?
As she looked into his eyes, she saw a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, she could learn to love again.
But as she turned away, Emilia couldn't shake off the feeling that Edward's shadow still loomed over her, waiting to snatch her back.
As the days passed, Emilia found herself growing more comfortable in the safe house. Jack's presence was a constant source of comfort, and she began to feel a sense of security she hadn't known in months.
But despite her growing feelings for Jack, Emilia couldn't shake off the memories of Edward. She remembered the way he used to make her laugh, the way he used to hold her hand.
One night, as she lay in bed, Emilia felt a sudden pang of longing. She missed Edward, missed the way he used to make her feel.
She knew it was twisted, knew she shouldn't miss someone who had hurt her so badly. But she couldn't help the way she felt.
As she drifted off to sleep, Emilia felt a presence in the room. She opened her eyes to find Jack standing beside her bed, his eyes filled with concern.
"Hey, are you okay?" he whispered.
Emilia nodded, feeling a lump form in her throat.
But as she looked into Jack's eyes, she saw something there that made her heart skip a beat. A glimmer of understanding, of acceptance.
