"Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts full of gratitude. Thank You for the gift of this new day, for Your grace and mercy that are new every morning. As we gather in Your house, we ask for Your presence to fill this place. Open our hearts and minds to receive Your word and draw us closer to You.
Bless this service, our worship, and the message we are about to hear. May everything we do bring glory and honor to Your name. Guide us, Lord, and let Your peace reign in our midst.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
The prayer ended with this final acknowledgment of God's sovereignty and a request for His will to be done.
Frida felt overwhelmed all over again. Every time she spent her time here, an immense peace washed over her, as if she were being reborn. In this sacred space, she never felt alone. She had God, and He would save His child from every danger.
After her mother's death, Frida had cried endlessly. Even now, she was still a crybaby and probably always would be. The church had become her sanctuary, the place where she sought solace, where she whispered her prayers in the quiet corners, where she found comfort in the flickering candlelight. But little did she know, this very place—her refuge—would become the first hunting ground where danger would start lurking around her."
Fairy!"
Daisy's high-pitched cry shattered the stillness as she came running towards Frida.
"Princess, the prayer is already over. Are you okay? Don't cry, come here."
Frida opened her arms, and Daisy flung herself into them, hiccuping.
"Momma didn't wake me up early! She said I needed sleep, but I wanted to attend the prayer! I really wanted to see you sing!"
Daisy wailed, her little hands gripping Frida's dress tightly.
Frida's heart clenched. She held Daisy closer, gently rubbing her back.
"Don't cry, my love. We can still pray now, okay?"
"Can we?" Daisy sniffled, her tear-streaked face looking up at Frida with hope.
"Yes, baby, we can."Inside the church, Frida approached the priest.
"Father, she was crying because she missed the morning prayer. Will you bless her now?"
"Of course, my child." The priest placed a gentle hand on Daisy's head.
"Come here. All the blessings with you. God loves you. Don't cry, little one. Even if you missed the prayer, God lives inside us. He sees all of us."
Daisy sniffed again but smiled a little.
"Thank you, Father. Will God still give me anything I want even if I missed the morning prayer?"
The priest chuckled. "God listens to every wish, little one."
Daisy pressed her hands together, closed her eyes tightly, and whispered,
"God, please give me my fairy forever. I want her."
"Amen," the priest said warmly.
Frida felt a lump in her throat as she gazed at Daisy.
If only the world were that simple.
"Are we feeling good now?" Frida asked her lovingly.
"Yes my fairy." Daisy laughed.
By now, it was 8 a.m. Frida stood outside, holding Daisy's hand, as they talked to some elderly women. They patted Daisy's head lovingly, showering her with chocolates. Daisy giggled, happy in Frida's company, and Frida found herself smiling at the sight. Lately she has been attached to Frida more.
Her phone rang suddenly. She quickly answered it, lowering her voice to not disturb the serene atmosphere.
"Hello, Frida, I called to tell Daisy that I'm sorry. She wasn't feeling good last night, so I let her sleep in. But now she's so mad at me, she won't even listen!" Lisa sounded genuinely worried.
"Don't worry, Lisa," Frida reassured her.
"You absolutely did the right thing. The prayer starts at 5:30 a.m., and it wouldn't have been good for her health. She's fine now—laughing, playing with other kids. Grandma Sophia adored her and gave her so many chocolates."
"Oh, thank God. I was so worried. She didn't even listen to Rafael. She loves you so much, I guess. Frida, is she bothering you with all this?"
"Absolutely not, Lisa. I love her too. And honestly, I enjoy spending time with her. Being unemployed right now, I have nothing else to do anyway."
"Oh no! Can I help in any way? Would you like to stay with us for a few days?"
"Thank you for your kindness, but I'll have to refuse. I'm actually enjoying this break."
"Well, if you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to ask. You're like my little sister, and I'd love to help in any way."
"Thank you so much, Lisa. Daisy, come here, your mom called—"
Frida's words trailed off as something clicked in her mind.
"But Lisa, who did she come with? Should I take her home?"
"Oh no, no. She came with Rafael. You didn't see him?"
Frida's breath hitched. Her fingers clenched around the phone as unease crawled up her spine.
"Um... no. I must have overlooked him."
She swallowed hard, suddenly feeling watched.
"Would you like to call him and ask him to wait at the front gate?"
