001. the welcome dinner
━━━ ₊˚⊹【 🍊 】wesley's pov !
wesley, the boy who everyone knew always messed up. you couldn't really blame him, after all, his mother had only died a few years ago and his smile was truly contagious. even though he was always interrupting people, always upset, and sometimes unintentionally hurting his friends, wes fundamentally had a heart of gold. probably no one was as hopeful as he was and most people envied him for that reason. no matter how bad the situation looked, wes always saw the best in it. he himself thought it was a unique ability, but maybe it was just a curse.
..
"wesley! would you please come down? your father is getting impatient!" his stepmother called him while he was struggling with his tie, which just didn't seem to fit properly. "i'm almost done, vivian," the boy replied to the woman who could never replace his mother. his father recovered far too quickly from his wife's death and soon married vivian, a former model. wes was always careful to be polite to her, even though he somehow always managed to made her feel unwelcome.
the boy hurried down the stairwell, which contained framed paintings of him and his sister. he missed her very much, even though she was only attending a summer camp with her friends, she seemed light years away from him. the two had a deep bond and wesley always felt responsible for prue, even though she was the older of the two.
his father and stepmother, malcolm and vivian were already waiting for him in the huge hallway. they stood still, staring at him like two statues made of ice, emotionless, perfect and incredibly intimidating. but wes wouldn't be wes if he didn't just ignore this and continued walking past them out the front door.
the two followed reluctantly; he could already hear their displeasure from the way they walked. "i want you to finally act mature, wesley," his father said in a flat voice. the boy almost started laughing out loud. he should act mature? with a father like that, who couldn't even look his own son in the eyes?
"we'll see," he murmured to the man who looked at him appraisingly. vivian motioned for him to get into her car while she was already getting into the driver's seat. "no, thank you, dear stepmother. i'd rather drive alone." with a dismissive movement, she just rolled her eyes and started the car. his father quickly climbed into the passenger seat and watched his son critically, as if he didn't really understand what was going on behind his curly head. "see you at the party, family!" wesley waved goodbye until his waving hand gave them a middle finger. what a bunch of assholes, he thought by himself.
with a glance at his watch, wesley also began to walk fast to his car. his black range rover was parked next to his sister's pink jeep in the main garage of the house and probably needed to be refueled. hopefully the car would last the short drive to the jameson's. he quickly got in and started the engine.
