FIVE BITTERLY SIGHED as he reached for a loaf of bread. "What's the date?" The boy questioned. "The exact date," he clarified. The Hargreeves family could not stop themselves from openly gaping at their returned brother. Five looked the exact same as he did when he had left—17 years ago—but then again, so did Violet. He was now much more jumpy and appeared tired at his family's antics.
"The 24th," Vanya replied, still in shock herself.
"Of what?" Five breathed out, annoyed.
"It's March 24th, 2019," Tarrou stated plainly, hands gripping the edge of the wood. Everyone was sat at the kitchen's dining table, save Tarrou and Allison—who couldn't quit their pacing for long enough to relax in a seated position. Mai was rocking Gwen back and forth by the sink, never shifting her eyes away from her long lost brother. Klaus was sat crossed-legged on top of the table, his hands formed around his mouth in awe of his once missing little brother. Diego was perched on its edge, sulking as always.
Five thought for a moment. "Good."
There was a short pause. "So, are we gonna talk about what just happened?" Luther questioned.
"What just happened?" Lara repeated in mockery. She nervously laughed in a state of shock. "What just happened is our brother who's been missing for 17 years just fell out of the fucking sky into the damn courtyard, and dad is not even here to prove to us that he was right!" She spoke the last few words quickly, wildly gesturing her hand to Reginald's urn that lay by Klaus' feet.
Five was silent. Allison shook her head, annoyed. "Five?" Mai deigned to venture. "Can you?... Tell us what happened?" He didn't respond, instead laid two slices of bread on the counter.
Luther stood up abruptly, towering over his little brother. "It's been 17 years," he stated, matter-of-factly.
Five looked up to him, dropping the butter knife. He scoffed. "It's been a lot longer than that." Violet furrowed her eyebrows, as did her siblings. Five blinked blue just in front of Luther's chest and Violet flinched. Gwen gasped and a look of wonder sprouted on her young face. She widely smiled. When once Violet had been used to Five's spatial manipulation, she now had completely forgotten the familiar crackling of energy that rang in her ears when he did so. Five emerged on the stool by the pantry.
"I haven't missed that-" Luther started.
"Where'd you go?" Diego asked sharply.
"The future," Five reached for the marshmallows. "It's shit, by the way."
"Called it!" Klaus put his pointer finger up, sure to be recognized for his intuition. Lara simply rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. The Hargreeves siblings all vividly remembered Klaus' annoying theories he had constantly spouted when they were kids as to what had happened to Five: He jumped to space and fell in a black hole, he landed in the 18th century—sipped tea with his Irish ancestors, travelled to Antarctica and froze to death. The most prevalent was that he had been lost in the future. Clearly, he was right.
