It's nice when you don't have arch angels to worry about. The Kents have invited you over for
dinner. Like any reasonable person who's used to junk food and the occasional beer that you snag from your brothers, having a home cooked meal is always appreciated.
"Clark told us you have two brothers." Jonathan comments.
You nod.
"Yes Mr. Kent. Older brothers."
"And what do they do?" Martha asks.
You exchange a look with Clark. You know that he hasn't told them about it. All your little quirks. You figure he's waiting for you when you're ready to tell them. Because you know just about everything about Clark. So there really is no reason to lie to them. Straightening in your seat, you place your fork down.
"Mr. and Mrs. Kent, I know about Clark."
Jonathan and Marth look over at him a bit surprised.
"What do you mean you know about-"
"I mean I know his secret. He told me. Well actually I saw him and then he sort of spilled it. But the fact is I know, the same way he knows mine."
"What do you mean?"
Jonathan looks intrigued now and you send a brief look to Clark before you close your eyes. The lights in the room flicker and when your eyes reopen they are startled at what sounds like thunder inside the living room and the blue light over your irises. The blinking lights shine a light in the background and they both just stare at the silhouette of what looks like wings against the wall. It flashes two more times before it all fades. The lights flick back on instantly and your eyes appear normal.
After a beat you finally speak.
"I'm not exactly normal either."
They both still seem at a loss for words.
No one really knows what to say. Clark is the one who finally speaks.
"At least I'm not the only crazy thing in Smallville right dad?"
Clark is wearing a small smile and you can't help but laugh.
It'll take a while for them to adjust to the news, but you feel better now that it's all out in the open.
The somewhat silent dinner later and you're in the loft with Clark. Seated on his couch, you both discuss the events of the past couple days.
It's not easy and you know it'll take more than one meeting like that for his parents to fully trust you, but more than anything, you would never hurt Clark. In a way you could tell that's all they needed to know. Your eyes are a bit fixated on your palm.
Your intention had been to merely show them, but that moment, it felt like you were holding onto a lightning bolt. Your abilities seem to have advanced far beyond what you expected. Given what seems to happen in this town, that might not be such a bad thing.
"You seem different."
You nod.
It's not strange that he's noticed. You turn your palm over.
"I think seeing Michael might have boosted my grace."
Clark turns to you.
"The first time I really used it, well it was when he tried to jump my brother's bones. He sort of triggered it because I wanted to protect them. When he came back, there's a part of me that could only think about protecting you. I guess that's my sun in this sense."
You're hoping the explanation makes a bit of sense.
"So, being around me makes you stronger?"
You nod with a shy smile.
"I guess so."
Clark grins.
"I really wish he hadn't dropped in when he did. We were having such a good moment." You mumble.
Your eyes are still focused in your lap, and when he takes your hand, you look up.
"I think we can create some more, don't you?"
With a slow nod, you close your eyes just as Clark leans in. You hum at the sensation, and his hand easily makes its way around your waist as he pulls you closer. You welcome it, because for a moment when Michael showed up, there was a part of you that feared for the worse.
So many things have felt like they've gone wrong in your life. But landing here, being in Smallville, it's the first right thing that's happened in so long. Clark pulls back slowly and you lick your lips, eyes still closed. He smiles at the elated expression you wear.
For a while the only thing that brought on those reactions were books. Now's he happy that he can give you the same amount of excitement and joy. Your eyes finally flutter open, and the subtle blue light makes his smile grow wider. It's become apparent that you tend to lose control when you're with him.
A fact he's ecstatic about.
"Why are you smiling like that?"
"No reason."
He chuckles.
You mean to question further, but he kisses you again and the thought is lost.
Happy endings might not be so far out of your reach after all.
