That was a smooth escape if I do say so myself. I can't be seen by anything mechanical so just distract the biological ones long enough and I can skip away without anyone noticing. The others pulled off the distraction perfectly. Now I must do my part and find a way outta here.
The walls here are entirely made of metal and painted white. It's really killing my eyes. How did they get so much metal a hundred kilometres below ground without anyone noticing?
I look at the map Star sent me. There are a few moving dots all over the place marking the positions of all my nano cams. The red squares represent IR sensors, blue ones are retina scans, green ones are ID scans, purple ones are voice activated, and orange ones are visible enemies.
That's too much info for a ten-year-old to take in and use to escape. But not this one. I'm not ranked the second best gamer on the continent for no reason, y'know.
As I slowly walk down the painfully bright corridors, Star explains my intended path.
[Objective: Reach the first wing; Bank. After careful analysis, there are two paths we could take. Each path has lower security. Even if caught, we can still escape.]
That's my Star. Always knows what I want. I can't be caught on camera, but my voice can still be recorded, so I use holograms from my watch to communicate with her.
"The first path leads us directly to the Bank from the Lab, right?" I ask.
[Affirmative. This prevents us from entering the Vault, but it unfortunately isn't the fastest route.]
"Safety first, I guess. That means the second path..."
[It is as you guessed. We will be passing through the Vault.]
Hmm...
"How long will it take to reach the Bank for each route?"
[Approximately four hours for the first and two hours and forty three minutes for the second. Crowds have been accounted for.]
Meaning that's the maximum time I can take while avoiding the other agents, the security system and security bots. Not bad, but could be better.
"Yawn~"
Dang. Didn't get enough sleep thanks to those agents keeping me on my toes. I need a place to crash for a bit.
"So we're starting with the safe route first, then. If we fail, we transition to the next. Hm? Wait. I only have three chances to transition if we get stuck..."
[The two paths are not too far from each other until the second passes through the next wing.]
Eesh. Hard mode indeed. Well, there's nothing I can do but go forward, right? I also need to look out for my nano cams.
...
...
...this is tiring...
-
I've been walking for a few minutes now. So far, so good. Haven't had an encounter since starting. Is this actually gonna... No, don't jinx it. I'm just lucky.
...but it is strange that we haven't seen a single agent so far. For a big facility to not have employees is real strange. Are they on vacation? Do criminal organizations even have vacations? Or maybe they're all in one place right now. Either way, I need to make use of this freedom.
[Notice: Nano cam nearby.]
That makes two so far. I check the map. There's a branch coming up. There's even a bathroom there. How convenient.
[Warning: Agents detected.]
They're right in front of me. I need to hide!
I quickly take the route on the left, dash into the bathroom and hide in one of the stalls. Did they see me?
I hear the bathroom door open. They saw me?!
"Man, Agent Blanc really has it rough. Dealing with Agents Thorn, Rouge, Obsidian and Solid while juggling all his work at the same time," one agent says. Good they didn't see me.
They enter the stalls to my left.
"He's the leader of The Colours. It's only natural that he has more work. Dealing with that no nonsense Thorn from The Vines is the hardest part, though."
"Yeah, I can't even look her in the eyes. It's like she can see my brain through my skull or something."
That's...uh, really disturbing...
"Dude, you've talked to her?"
"Yeah. I felt like a literal ant back there. If I'd made a wrong move, my entire life would've been forfeit."
"C'mon, bro. It isn't that bad."
[Stephanie. I have received some information. It's about the experi-]
"Sigh. So we're doing them experiments today, huh..."
...what? It's today?! But I thought it was scheduled for next week!
[...Agent Blanc and Agent Red have decided to perform the experiment today due to suspicious activities by the test subjects.]
...
This is the worst. I sit there thinking about what to do about this that I didn't notice the two agents leaving.
...
Tsk! I can't go back now. Even if I could, it wouldn't change anything. I just need to push forward. I still have time before the experiments start.
With that, I leave the bathroom and continue down the white corridor.
