I would like to start by saying that Kanae and Tsutako never knew about Giyuu and Shinobu's friendship. Tsutako only found out AFTER Shinobu left.
Shinobu's parents disliked Giyuu, and noticed that Shinobu seemed to be around him more. They weren't bad parents, they just disliked Giyuu because of his performance in school. Though he was smart, he failed some of his classes and the Kocho family took notice of it.
So this is why, in chapter 2, Kanae does not acknowledge that Shinobu knew Giyuu.
