Years earlier...

You and Ghost ran through the halls, escaping your captain after royally screwing up his training. Your laughs echoed off the empty walls. Ghost quickly opened the door to a closet, "Hurry up." He whispered through his teeth. He closed it as he went in after you.

It was almost pitch black. You concealed more laughs with your lips pinched together. "Shh." Ghost said as he put his hand over your mouth. You nodded.

Shouting and stomping went by the door and you both froze. Once they were gone, Ghost snorted a laugh and you joined in.

"You're gonna get me kicked out of the military." He joked as he calmed his laughter. You shook your head, "No, you're gonna go far, Simon." His hands glided over your waist, "Long as I have you next to me." a kiss before you woke up.

Present...

Simon. You sighed as you ran a hand through your tangled hair. Getting out of bed, you suddenly became aware of the empty apartment you used to share with your longtime boyfriend. He moved out last night.

He never minded hearing about Simon because you swore you moved on and Simon had, too, and he was just a friend now. Until you whispered Simon's name during your very rare intimate night a few nights ago.

You mindlessly went through your daily routine, not putting a lot of effort into it. As you washed the dishes, you got a call from Soap.

"Hey, Johnny." You answered.

"Hey, Y/N. Heard what happened..." he said with sorrow in his voice.

You sighed with frustration. "Jesus, is he going around telling everyone..."

"He called and asked for a place to stay." He continued. "I wouldn't be upset if you let him if that's what you're getting at." You said somewhat lying. "No, I already told him there wasn't any room. Gaz doesn't like chaos." He laughed subtly.

"Okay..." you said not knowing what else to say. There was silence on the line. "Did he tell you why?" You didn't really want to know the answer. He didn't answer at first, telling you the answer before he said, "Something about LT."

Tears pricked your eyes, "I don't love Simon like that anymore..." you mumbled. Soap sighed, "Y/N, you know I love you but you gotta stop lying to yerself." You rolled your eyes. "I'm not. Why do I have to keep telling everyone that?" You snapped. "Because at this point it's like you're really just trying to convince yerself you're not."

Soap's words stuck with you the rest of the day. You sat in front of the TV, ignoring people who blew up your phone until you grew tired of the constant vibrating and shut it off.

You tried to focus on your trashy reality show when there was a knock on the door. You groaned and turned the TV down, hoping they didn't hear it so they'd think no one was home. You waited but another knock.

"C'mon, Y/N, I know you're in there." Simon said through the door. Your heart sank and you wanted to melt into the sofa to disappear. Surely Soap's big mouth told him.

Simon knocked once more. You exhaled harshly as you got up to open the door. When you opened the door, he stood there with a look of torment on his face.

"Is it true?" He asked. His eyes had the same look for you that it did years ago. "Simon," You tried but when he heard your tone he cut you off. "Don't bullshit me, Y/N. Is it true?" He spoke slowly.

You stared at him. Of course it was true. Soap was right. Your ex was right. Everyone was right. But you didn't want them to be right. Because Simon had moved on. It was never anything serious until the woman he was seeing now came along. It seemed promising. And he was happy.
