NO ONE POV

The sun was setting as the last of the students exited the exam hall, casting a soft orange glow across the school grounds. One by one, exhausted candidates emerged, some with relief on their faces, others looking like they had just survived a battlefield.

Outside, Seoyeon, Yooyeon, Xinyu, Sohyun, and Nakyoung gathered near the entrance, waiting for each other before heading home. Xinyu and Sohyun immediately dove into a discussion about the exam, comparing answers and debating whether they had tackled the harder questions correctly.

“I’m pretty sure question three was about interpreting that graph,” Xinyu said, scratching her head.

“No, I think it was asking for an analysis,” Sohyun countered, rubbing her temples. “It threw me off at first, but I think I got it in the end.”

Nakyoung, standing between them, groaned loudly, throwing her hands in the air. “Please, stop! I don’t want to think about it anymore. Let me live in blissful ignorance until the results come out. I’m not ready to face my failure yet!”

Xinyu and Sohyun laughed, though they kindly let the subject drop, shifting to lighter topics. Nakyoung looked relieved as she clung to her belief that she might just scrape through.

Meanwhile, a few steps away, Seoyeon and Yooyeon had slipped into their own conversation, standing a bit apart from the group.

Seoyeon cleared her throat awkwardly, glancing sideways at Yooyeon. “Hey… I wanted to apologize.”

Yooyeon blinked, tilting her head in confusion. “Apologize for what?”

“For what I did before the exam,” Seoyeon explained, her voice quieter now. “About my feelings and all. I shouldn’t have distracted you right before such an important test. I—I didn’t mean to mess with your focus.”

Yooyeon smiled at her, the warmth in her eyes softening Seoyeon’s anxious heart. “It’s okay, Seoyeon. Really.”

Seoyeon let out a small breath of relief but wasn’t finished. With a playful glint in her eye, she added, “Well, I’m going to beat you in this exam, just so you know. You better get ready to take second place.”

Yooyeon chuckled, her smile not fading. “Yeah, you will.”

Seoyeon frowned, taken aback by how easily Yooyeon agreed. She had expected some playful banter or at least a sarcastic retort about their rivalry. But Yooyeon’s response was genuine, almost… too calm. “Wait, what?”

“I mean it,” Yooyeon said, her voice soft but certain. “You’re going to beat me.”

Seoyeon stared at her, her confusion deepening. This wasn’t the usual competitive, fiery Yooyeon she knew—the one who would never admit defeat. Something had shifted in the way Yooyeon looked at her, and Seoyeon wasn’t sure what to make of it.

“Yooyeon,” Seoyeon started, her voice more serious now, “are you okay? You’ve been acting… different.”

Yooyeon just smiled again, avoiding the question as she glanced up at the sky. “Come on, let’s catch up with the others before Nakyoung starts another rant about failing.” She nudged Seoyeon playfully before walking over to join the group.

Seoyeon watched her go, still confused but feeling something heavy in her chest. Whatever had changed in Yooyeon, it wasn’t just about the exam. Something deeper was going on, and Seoyeon was determined to figure it out.
