"No detours!" Klaus said with finality

"No detours!" Klaus said with finality. He was so close, he knew it. Those werewolves were just around the corner, cowering behind that brick wall, thinking it would save them. But soon, they would realise it would not. And when they did it would be too late, too late as Klaus tasted sweet victory on his tongue.

Klaus would not give up that sweetness for some small triviality of the delicacy of his brother's heart.

"Fuck that! Did you not hear her scream?" Finn shouted back; it had been an hour and no progress had been made. Ever since the line had gone dead, the two brothers had whiled away an hour going back and forth about whether or not to return to Murielle.

"Yes, I have functioning ears. She was probably telling Elijah to bugger off." Obviously, Klaus's argument was one in favour of their continuation. Though part of him was deeply concerned as to Murielle's whereabouts, it was not a large enough part to put everything he had worked for on hold for one interesting human.

Murielle could wait; she would be there when he returned to welcome him with open arms and without a care for the atrocities he had committed. She had survived death and would doubtless survive this as well. He hoped.

"Are you hearing yourself?! What kind of insane reasoning is that?" Finn asked incredulously. Finn had seen the way Niklaus had acted towards Murielle in wolf form; he could not believe that his brother could be so apathetic now. A man who, in his right mind, nearly bit Finn's head off for merely standing close to Murielle was now willing to let her endangerment become just another event.

The questions were rhetorical but Klaus answered them nonetheless. "As I said before, my ears do work. Sometimes the truth is insane. Look, I'm not giving everything up for some girl you are infatuated with."

"I love her!" Finn screamed at his brother.

Silence.

The confession hung in the air, dangling between them like some great abyss had been revealed beneath their feet.

Finn screwed his eyes shut; he hadn't meant to say it aloud but the realisation of his adoration of Murielle had been desperate to be known to the world for three days hence. Those words that were so close to his heart were not meant for his brother, not meant for the man who knew nothing but the ugliest of loves and the most twisted of affections.

They were meant for her.

Meant to be whispered in her ear as they lay together, to be a sweet promise of forever. They were meant to become as natural as punctuation for him; instead of a full stop at the end of a sentence, it would be a short 'I love you' to the owner of his heart. They were meant to be an outpouring of the waterfall of emotions that he felt cascading over his heart for her.

Klaus was shocked to say he had not suspected it would be a most grievous lie but never had he toyed with the idea of such violent affections stemming from Finn. He had not thought after Sage...
