Despite the brief accompanied trip Elijah had to make the next day, time passed peacefully with Finn's brother there to ease his worries.
The vampire had refused to say why it was necessary for him to leave and return so quickly, which did him no favours with anyone else in that house. Subsequently, Murielle had become an escort to him for travelling through the portal, as she refused to simply let him come and go as he pleases just yet. As soon as she gave him that key to her clearing, her life was a match in his hands, so easily struck out and burnt.
The sanctity of her refuge could not be so easily betrayed to anyone and so until he proved himself, she would remain an escort should he want to go anywhere.
Not that Elijah complained; he found himself enjoying her company and could see why his brother had chosen to stay with her. It had taken him two days and a night to resolve his business in Mystic Falls before he had returned to the cottage, in which time Finn had once again decided that until his brother was back, it was best if he kept his distance from Murielle, much to her annoyance.
She was more than relieved at Elijah's return, as it meant Finn eased out of his sulking. Murielle had no clue how to ease his troubles; she was more well versed in maladies of the body than of the soul, and it frustrated her to no end. Every single second of every single day she could spend telling him he was not a monster, yet he would still not believe her. Sweet words such as those would lift his spirits for mere moments before whatever inner demon plagued him whispered contradictory, vicious ones that forced him to take two steps backward.
Nevertheless, she spent every day for the next six days continuing to spend time with him, slowly getting back to a point where he could have a conversation with her despite his brother being deep in the forest. Every step forward was positive, no matter how small, and so she patiently waited for him to finally look in the mirror and see himself for the beautiful soul that she saw in him.
All the while this was happening, Murielle got to know Elijah. In the beginning, it had been for the mere fact that he had always been in the room with her and Finn, in the conversation. Like at dinner or reading with them in the late afternoon. Then his many impromptu trips that he took to Mystic Falls required them to spend time alone, travelling back and forth through the portal.
It was one such trip that turned out to be a small catalyst in the formation of their relationship.
Murielle was standing in Mystic Falls, a place she had recently frequented far more than she would've liked, waiting on Elijah to meet her so that she could bring him back home. Her thoughts were pleasantly occupied with her plan of what to cook for the three of them that night when a crashing noise caught her attention.
She was stationed in a relatively unoccupied area of Mystic Falls so as not to draw attention to herself, so a noise like that was unexpected. Her head whipped around to see a crazed woman running towards her.
