Before I Knew You

Part 5

He was interrupted by a knock at the door. I couldn't understand his aggravation when he threw his hands in the air and muttered, "Seriously?" and he opened the door to see Logan.

"Dude we have to head back in the morning. Are you going or are you staying?"

Kendall looked back at me and then turned back to Logan, "I'm going to stay. If I change my mind I will get a flight out." and he closed the door behind Logan.

He came back to the bed and laid down never saying a word. I sat up and looked at him, "Why are you staying? You don't have to. I will be fine."

He looked up at me, "You want me to leave?" I shook my head, and he smiled, "I will leave but you have to go with me."

I looked at him crazy and almost laughed, "You want ME to just pick up my life and leave to go with YOU?"

He smiled slightly, "Well the way I see it you need some rest and to regroup. You have always wanted to go to California, and you LOVE me..."

My mouth dropped open, "Who told you that I LOVED you?"

"So, you don't love me?"

I smiled slightly, giving myself away, "I'm not answering that question but how I feel about you is beside the point. Why would I just jump up and go with you?"

He took my hand, "Well your whole life is here and right now everything is falling apart around you. Maybe if you went with me you could step away from it all and figure things out..." He hesitated and then adds, "And you would be closer to HD if you decided you wanted to see him."

We sat there in silence while I tried to compute what he just said. My mind was really going crazy now. He touched my arm, and I jumped, "Sorry. I just don't know what to say to that."

He brushed the hair out of my eyes, "Then just say yes. We can work it out from there." He paused, picking up his phone, "Can I tell HD you're coming to town?"

I shook my head, "Even if I went I wouldn't want him to know I was there."

Kendall looked shocked and slightly hurt, "But why?"

I gave him a solemn look, "If I'm going out there to work on me I can't be around him. He has made it clear that I need to deal with all of this, and he can't be with me when I do."

Kendall smiled slightly, "I think what he said was he couldn't help you 'like that'." He hung his head slightly, "Can I be honest with you about something?" I gave him a look and he continued, "He is crazy about you. He doesn't know what it is or why, but he feels this pull to you. When y'all kiss it does something to him. He doesn't want to get into anything but a friendship with you right now because he is worried that in the frame of mind you are in it will end badly and the last thing he wants is to lose you out of his life completely. When the time is right he will know what to do." He mumbled, adding, "Hopefully."

I questioned, "How do you know so much about how he feels?"

He took my hand, "Because HD and I..." he looked into my eyes, "We..." He hesitated again, "I can't explain it right now but one day it will all make sense."

"Kendall is there something you're not telling me?"

He put his arms around me, "We need to get some sleep. I'm on strict orders to make sure you get some rest. Why don't you sleep on it, and you can tell me in the morning that you are going with me."

I laughed, "You're really sure of yourself aren't you."

He pulled me into a hug, "I just know you will make the right decision." He crawled up into the bed, getting comfortable, "(yn) I hope I'm not being to forward but..." I looked at him and waited for him to finish but he changes his mind, "Never mind."
