It was a typical afternoon, and Y/N was walking towards the school gate with Yuki, chatting idly about their upcoming weekend plans. Y/N, still trying to steer clear of Akaashi, was feeling somewhat relaxed. Maybe this avoiding thing is working out after all...
But just as she was getting comfortable, a familiar voice called out, "Y/N!"
Y/N froze in her tracks, feeling her heart skip a beat. She slowly turned her head, her eyes wide. Please tell me it's not who I think it is...
And there he was. Akaashi Keiji, walking towards her with that calm, collected demeanor of his, and Y/N instantly started scanning the area. Where's Eri? Is she hiding behind a tree or something?! Her nerves were getting the best of her.
Yuki, on the other hand, was grinning from ear to ear, noticing Y/N's panicked face. "I'll give you two some space," she whispered, shooting her friend a wink. "I'll be over there when you're done!"
"W-wait—" Y/N tried to grab Yuki's arm, but her friend had already slipped away, leaving her standing there awkwardly. Betrayed by my own best friend!
Akaashi approached, looking as calm as ever. "Hey, Y/N-san," he greeted with a soft smile. "Hey, Yuki-san."
"Hi!" Yuki chirped from a distance, her voice laced with amusement.
Y/N, on the other hand, was struggling to keep her composure. "H-hi, Akaashi-san..."
He tilted his head slightly, his dark eyes observing her in that way that always made her heart race. "Can we talk privately for a moment?"
"P-privately?" Y/N stammered, her mind racing. Why does he want to talk to me alone? Did Eri set him up to do this? Is she hiding in the bushes somewhere, ready to pounce?!
Despite her internal freak-out, she managed to nod, though her legs felt like jelly. Akaashi gestured for them to step to the side, away from the other students heading home.
Once they were alone, Akaashi turned to her, his expression gentle. "I've noticed you've been avoiding me lately."
Y/N's heart dropped into her stomach. Oh no, he noticed! I thought I was being sneaky!
"I—I wasn't avoiding you!" she blurted out, though it came out far more defensive than she intended. Well, technically I was... but it's not what you think!
Akaashi raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in his eyes. "You weren't?"
Y/N floundered, trying to come up with an excuse. "I, uh... I was just busy... with... uh... projects! Yeah, lots of projects!"
Akaashi let out a soft chuckle, and Y/N's heart did a backflip. He's laughing... at me...? Wait, no, he's just being nice, right?
"It's okay," Akaashi said, his voice soothing. "You don't have to explain."
I don't?! Y/N's brain screeched to a halt. Then why did you ask me in the first place?!
Before Y/N could spiral any further, Akaashi glanced around as if making sure no one else was listening. "I actually wanted to ask you something."
Her eyes widened. What does he want to ask me?
"Are you free this weekend?" Akaashi's question was casual, but Y/N felt like she had just been hit by a truck.
"F-free?" Y/N repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. Is he asking me out? Like, on a date?! Wait, no, calm down. Maybe he just needs help with something... like... notes. Yeah, maybe he needs notes. Or maybe—
"I was wondering if you'd like to hang out around town," Akaashi continued, watching her reaction closely. "Just the two of us."
Y/N's brain short-circuited. He—he wants to hang out? With me? Alone?! She could practically feel her face turning the color of a tomato.
"I—uh—um—y-yes!" she finally managed to squeak out.
Akaashi smiled, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes. "Great. I'll pick you up from your house then."
Y/N nodded frantically, still processing what had just happened. Did he just... invite me on... a d-d-date?
But before she could ask any more questions or even breathe properly, Akaashi turned slightly, as if remembering something. "Oh, and you don't have to worry about Eri anymore."
Y/N blinked. Wait... what?
Before she could respond, Akaashi gave her a small wave and excused himself. "I'll see you this weekend."
And with that, he walked off, leaving Y/N standing there, completely frozen.
Yuki, who had been watching the entire interaction from a distance, bounded over with an excited grin. "So?! What did he say?"
Y/N turned to her, her face a mix of confusion, shock, and pure terror. "He... he asked me to hang out this weekend..."
Yuki gasped dramatically. "NO WAY! He finally made a move?!"
"But... but he also said I don't have to worry about Eri anymore..." Y/N's voice was shaky, still trying to comprehend what had just happened.
Yuki snickered. "Well, looks like Eri got the boot!"
Y/N was still in a daze. I have a date with Akaashi?! But... but what does he mean, 'don't worry about Eri'? Her thoughts were spiraling again.
Yuki grinned, patting her on the back. "You better pick out a cute outfit, girl! This is your big chance!"
As Yuki led her away, Y/N's thoughts were all over the place. This weekend... with Akaashi... just the two of us...
She clutched her bag tighter, her heart racing at the thought. Maybe... just maybe... this could actually turn out to be something special.
