An hour or so later, the group sits on one bed, having regrouped in a small drive-inn hotel for the time being. Heeseung is on the phone with Jake, relaying the name “Dr. Bae Wonhyuk” and asking the younger tech agent to dig up whatever information he can.
Meanwhile, Sunoo is on his laptop, searching up articles and information on Gimpo MedTech Laboratories.
Jungwon feels the spot next to him dip when Jay takes a seat, leaning back on his hands as he lets out a yawn. The doctor turns to face him at the exact same moment the agent does the same, both of them just staring into each other’s elusive eyes for a good three-seconds.
Most times, Jay looks like an intimidating feline in Jungwon’s eyes, but right now, with his head tilted and a few strands of hair straying away from where they were initially swept-back, sweeping across his forehead daintily, he looked much softer.
“Are you sure Dr. Bae Wonhyuk doesn’t ring any bells?” he asks carefully.
Jungwon shakes your head, breaking eye contact with him as he opts to stare at the carpeted floor, “I told you. I did everything I could to forget about before, so I’m almost certain that I don’t know him.”
“Being ‘almost certain’ is very different from being ‘100% certain’, Jungwon.” the agent starts, “That difference would make a big impact in cases like this.”
Jungwon ignores the fact that he uses his first name instead of addressing him as he usually does. The doctor takes a deep breath and releases it, “I’m sorry, Agent Park. I really don’t remember.”
Jay nods his head in understanding, giving Jungwon’s knee a quick pat before standing up to go to where Heeseung is. The doctor watches the two males talk with each other, Heeseung gesturing to his phone as Jay nods. Jungwon can vaguely register Sunoo typing on the laptop, but his attention is solely on his knee; specifically, the part that Jay lightly patted.
What was that for? , he asks himself, unconsciously bringing his hand to the said knee and squeezing it.
He hated being confused.
Minutes and minutes pass, and soon, Jungwon notices that the night was ushered in. By now, Heeseung had returned with take-out dinner for everyone.
While eating their meals, Sunoo speaks up, “So, what Dr. Yoo said about Gimpo MedTech Lab was true. They did officially announce a ‘break’ of sorts because they were struggling financially. They’ve been on hiatus for about seven months already.”
“The lab’s a fairly small one compared to all the larger ones we’re more familiar with.” the doctor adds, “They even had to let go of some scientists and researchers prior to going on hiatus.”
