Mid May, 2006
The bedside lamp flicking on jostles me awake. It was my turn on the couch at the motel and now my neck aches like hell. Sam is sitting up in his bed, a panicked look in his eyes. He notices my gaze and looks to me."Sam, you ok?"
He rises and starts gathering his things. Dean stirs, rubbing his eyes.
"What are you doing man, it's the middle of the night.""We have to go."
"What's happening?" I sit up.
"We have to go. Right now."
Sam grabs his bag and walk outside.
I look to Dean who shrugs and shakes his head slightly.•———————————————————————•
Sam hangs up the phone and huffs, looking out the window as we drive."Sammy relax. I'm sure it's just a nightmare." Dean tries to reassure his brother.
"Yeah, tell me about it."
"I mean it. Y'know, a normal, naked in class, nightmare. This licence plate you saw, it won't check out. You'll see."
Sam sighs.
"It's different Dean. Real. Like when I dreamt about our old house. And Jessica."Dean nods slowly.
"Yeah, that makes sense. You're dreaming about our house, your girlfriend. This guy in your dream, you ever seen him before?"Sam shakes his head.
"No. Exactly. Why would you have premonitions about some random dude in Michigan." Dean says.Sam's phone rings again, nodding as he writes down the details.
"Jim Miller. Saginaw, Michigan. You have a street address? Got it. Thanks."
"Checks out. How far are we?" He says, hanging up."From Saginaw? Coupla hours." I say from my seat.
Sam looks to Dean.
"Drive faster."We pull up to the Miller house. There's emergency vehicles littering the street, and someone being lifted onto a stretcher in a body bag. We get out of the car and approach the car.
"What happened?" Dean asks a nearby woman."Suicide. I can't believe it." She says, shaking her head.
"Did you know them?" I ask.
"Saw him in every Sunday at St Augustines. He always seems...seemed, so normal. I guess you never know what's going on behind closed doors."
"Guess not." I nod.
Sam finally speaks.
"How did...how are they saying it happened?""I heard they found him in the garage, locked inside his car with the engine running."
"Do you know about what time they found him?"
"Oh, it just happened about an hour or two ago. His poor family. I can't even imagine what they're going through."
I look up at the porch of the house. A woman stands on the front step and is leaning against a man. A young guy stands behind them, looking distraught. Sam grimaces and turns away, walking back to the car, I follow after him.
"Sam, we got here as fast as we could." I say softly, my hand twitches to reach out and comfort him.
"Not fast enough. It doesn't make any sense, Dem. Why would I even have these premonitions if there wasn't a chance I could stop them from happening?"
I sigh and shrug my shoulders.
"I dunno Sam. But we will do what we can to help these people."
He looks up at me, the pain in his eyes ebbing. Dean struts back over and Sam shifts his eyes away from me.
