The Astronomy Tower

As weeks went by, snow began to fall upon the castle. Hogwarts was truly spectacular during winter. The dark forest looked like it was dusted with icing sugar and the Black Lake had begun to freeze over. As I peered out the window of my dorm, the mer-people had started collecting food for the winter months. I had woken up in a good mood for the first time in weeks. I was finally okay with my lack of interaction with Draco and I was excited for Christmas.

I quickly pulled out my dark green knitted sweater, my large black trench coat, a thick black skirt and  my wooly stockings, then wrapping my green and silver striped scarf around my neck. Today was the second quidditch match of the season, Slytherin verses Ravenclaw. I love quidditch. I love the atmosphere and school spirit, it was cheesy but it really brings out everyone's school cheer. I woke up Daph, dragging her out of bed. "Come on! We have to go!" I pleaded. Daphne begrudgingly pulled on her her jeans and a huge coat. I forced her into a Slytherin beanie and we were ready to go.

As we sat in the stands, the teams made their way out onto the pitch. Marcus leading out the Slytherin team, Draco following directly behind him. I had almost forgotten Draco was on the team as a rush of sadness came over me. Slytherin students cheered and clapped until the Ravenclaw team passed our side of the pitch. We all began to boo and hiss. The players took their position and the quaffle was released.

As the game progressed, Slytherin was up 40-20. Ravenclaw had already received 3 penalty shots due to Slytherins dirty play. That seemed to be a bit of a reoccurring theme... Suddenly a flicker of gold flashed into view, Draco's eyes darted towards it. The snitch was flying around right near him. Cho Chang of Ravenclaw had also noticed and began zooming towards Draco. Draco leant forward, diving towards the snitch. After a long chase, Draco shouldered Cho out of the way and latched onto the snitch. He had caught it, Slytherin had won! The crowd cheered, standing up with applause. Draco looked over, still holding the snitch and smirked at me. I rolled my eyes, I couldn't be tempted by his charm.

As we were all eating pudding in the hall, Draco was still boasting about his "spectacular" catch hours after the game. Pansy was starstruck, hanging off his every word. "I'm going to vomit." I mouthed at Daph, who tried her very best to stifle a laugh. "Something funny, girls?" Pansy questioned, glaring at us both. "Oh no, Pansy, we were just wondering if you wanted Draco's autograph? I reckon I could get it for you." Daphne said matter-of-factly. I burst out laughing unable to hold it in. "Oh piss off! You're just jealous because Draco doesn't even talk to you!" Pansy yelled. I scoffed loudly.

I got up and stormed out of the hall, unable to hear anymore from Pansy or Draco. I decided I'd head up to the astronomy tower, my favourite place in the entire school. I sat on the window edge, gazing up at the stars, enjoying the peace and quiet. "I thought I might find you here." Draco announced behind me. "Go away, Draco." I sighed. Instead he came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me down from the window. I turned around to face him, staring up into his serious eyes. This whole ignoring him thing was becoming incredibly difficult. He gently caressed my face with his cold fingers, I shivered at his touch.

"I want you, Kenny." Draco breathed. "Draco I-" I began, but he crashed his lips onto mine. He tasted of mint and I wanted more. I breathed in his oaky sandlewood smell and continued kissing him passionately. His lips were soft and inviting as he gently nibbled on my lip. I wished to remain in this moment forever, held in a tight embrace, kissing Draco. After awhile we pulled apart, looking desperately into each other's eyes. "Kenny I want to try. I want to be your boyfriend and I want to be by your side. I don't want any other man to touch you." I stared into Draco, searching his face. He truly seemed genuine. "Okay Draco, okay." I responded. A smile spread across his face, which was an incredibly rare occurrance. His eyes were twinkling in the star-lit astronomy tower and he had never looked more attractive. We sat down on the cushiony chairs and held each other in a tight embrace. No words needed to be spoken, I was happy in his company.

I awoke suddenly feeling two strong arms wrapped around my torso. Oh my god, we'd fallen asleep in the tower! I pulled out Draco's pocket watch which showed it was 4:23am. Oh lord were we going to be in strife. I shook Draco awake, shouting "Its 4 in the morning! We fell asleep!". Draco got up with a jolt, pulling me up with him. "Shit Kenny! We've got to get back to the dorms!" Draco exclaimed. We raced down the stairs, trying to quietly run through the halls was proving difficult. As we rounded a corner very near the dungeons I heard footsteps. I pulled Draco back and looked around for an escape, when I spotted none other than a broom cupboard. How ironic. We climbed inside, waiting for the person to pass.

"Filch, I definitely heard someone, I bet it was that Potter roaming the castle again!" An angry Snape exclaimed. Oh great! I was going to be caught with a boy by none other than my own father. Draco glanced in my direction, a smirk across his face as he attempted to not giggle. I stared at him furiously shaking my head. He would not get me caught, that was just not happening. After a few moments I heard silence outside the cupboard so I assumed the coast was clear. We quietly crept out of the cupboard and began to tip-toe towards the dungeons.

"Not so fast." Snape snapped. Oh dear. I turned around slowly to face my very angry father. "What on earth could you possibly be doing out of bed at this hour with Malfoy of all people!?" My dad bellowed. "Ah, Kendra was just helping me with my astronomy homework, which we thought would be best to do under the stars..." Draco lied terribly. Snape glared at Draco, "50 points will be taken and you'll both be serving detention with Mr Filch for the next 3 Saturday's. And if I catch you out of bed late one more time Kendra, I will take you to Dumbledore!" My father was fuming. "You're also spending Christmas at school, you cannot go home this year." I had officially screwed up big time. Dad never made me spend Christmas at school, as that's what he had to do as a boy and he hated it.

-----

Christmas was finally here and I was stuck at Hogwarts, my Dad stayed true to his word. I woke up to the end of my bed loaded up with a bunch of wrapped gifts. Daphne had gone home for Christmas, but my door soon burst open and in came Draco, Blaise and Theo, whom had all stayed behind. "Present time!" Blaise shouted as he carted in a large pile of gifts. Apparently Blaise and Theo had a Christmas tradition together as they'd spent their last 3 Christmases at Hogwarts. We all sat on the floor of my dorm, ripping open our gifts. I received a shiny new cauldron from my father and a bunch of hair ribbons. I next opened my gift from Blaise as he begged me to. It was a sneakoscope! They can sense when someone is being deceitful or not of true nature. "Wow! Thanks Blaise, that's really great." I smiled. "Here this one is for you." I handed him a large parcel. He ripped it open and pulled out a black beanie and some chocolates.

As we finished opening our gifts, Blaise and Theo decided to go get changed for breakfast, Draco stayed behind. As I turned to him, he pulled out a small black box, handing it to me. "Draco you shouldn't have got me anything!" I exclaimed. "Of course I did." He responded matter-of-factly. i pulled off the black lid and inside was the most spectacular necklace I'd ever seen. It was a deep emerald encrusted with sparkling diamonds on its perimeter. "Draco.. this too nice.. I- I can't accept it." I was taken aback by his expensive gift. He grabbed the necklace and wrapped it around my neck, clasping it shut. "Well I can't take it back, it's been worn." He smirked. I leant over gently pecking his lips. I then pulled out my own surprise gift for him. He unwrapped the dark blue paper and found a vintage copy of his favourite novel of all time. "Wow Kenny, how'd you know I love this book?" Draco beamed. "I have my ways." I winked at him.

Draco and I walked down the halls, hand in hand on the way to breakfast. "Well isn't this cosy." Oh dear. I turned to face none other than my father. I immediately dropped Draco's hand, embarrassed. "You are to stay away from my daughter, Malfoy!" Snape bellowed. Draco's face went bright red but he stood his ground, "Why? I like your daughter and I don't want to stop hanging out wit her." "Don't test me, boy! If I see you anywhere near Kendra again, I'll make your life a living hell!" Snape said as he flicked his robes and waltzed away. I looked at Draco, "I'm sorry, I don't know what to do!" I cried. "Well I guess we will just have to be a little bit sneaky." Draco smirked. I raised my eyebrows at him pondering what he just said, but then smiled in agreement. We would just have to meet in secret.
