Back at Aratrika's place, things seemed quite peaceful. In fact everything was a little too peaceful which was in a way bothering her, or at least that's what we see for now. The least one can know for now is that there is always something cooking inside that 'not so little' brain of Ms. Aratrika Singh.
She came back to her home from her college to an eerie silence in her house, there was no 'turning the place upside down' noises which she was so used to. She knew very well that her parents fought again. She was used to this atmosphere now, random fights, cursing each other, calling each other names, insulting the families. Nothing was new for her, it was like an everyday evening tea routine.
Changing into some comfortable clothes, she went to her mother to ask for lunch. "mumma, what's for lunch?" she asked, her tone plain and numb. "The same as everyday." her mother replied not looking at her. Her mother kept herself busy in the kitchen, tossing and turning things around. The clinking of the utensils could be heard across the whole house. It was almost similar to the clashing of weapons in a battlefield, the only difference was that this was a domestic place and a domestic war. Dramatic enough.
Sighing at the theatrical worthy performance of her mother, Aratrika served herself some food and headed out to her room to eat in peace. The recent events had left her worrying about some issues. She was thinking about everything that had happened today. And most importantly she was thinking about him. Who was that guy? And why was he stuck on her mind? These questions kept lingering in her brain.
She was deep in her thoughts when she heard a knock on her door. "That's unusual." she said to herself because there was no way in the 21 years of her life that her parents ever knocked while entering in her room. Keeping her thoughts aside, she said, "come in". The door swung open revealing an excited yet an angry girl.
"You?!" Aratrika exclaimed. She was surprised to see her best friend in front of her. But more than that she was excited because the girl standing in front of her was her comfort person, the one she could confide in, regardless of anything.
............
Prakhya was Aratrika's best friend. In fact she was much more than that. Both the girls were like two peas in a pod. They knew each other like no one did and somehow both of them always knew if something was bothering the other one. They had known each other for more than ten years. They first met each other when they were in fifth standard and since then, they never left. The bond between the girls just kept on growing and before they knew, they were the happy place for each other. After completing their schooling together, both of them wanted to study in the same college but that couldn't happen since both of them decided to choose separate career paths. Prakhya took commerce as her graduation subject and Aratrika was more drawn towards law. And just like that they ended up in different colleges. But that didn't affect their friendship at all, in fact their bond grew even more stronger.
.............
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Prakhya shouted entering inside. "I've been calling you like a madwoman. Why do you even bother keeping a phone if you're never gonna answer it. Just throw it away instead, at least i will know that you don't have your phone with you." she continued, not sparing even a second for Aratrika to speak.
"Calm down my mother." Aratrika chuckled at her worried state. "At least breathe while you talk. I can't afford to lose my one and only bestfriend. What will i even do without you." she told sarcastically. "Now tell me what happened, why are you so worked up baby girl?" Aratrika continued taking a morsel of rice. "What happened? You are asking me what happened? Are you serious? You are talking as if i'm not aware of what happened today." Prakhya said while glaring at her.
Aratrika looked at her, observing her facial expressions, a sudden look of seriousness on her face. "Lock the door first." she said, her tone almost commanding. Prakhya locked the door understanding the complexity of the situation. "It was him again." Aratrika said, keeping the empty plate aside. Prakhya froze in her place, she clearly wasn't expecting 'him' as the answer. "This isn't going to end well." she said.
