The Brochand's clung to their French glory as an infant clings to its mother. Even though their two children, Mathis and Camille, had never been to France they were expected to know their entire family history that has given this family their wealth and affluence in the wizarding world.
The children were expected to hold their heads high and look down on any others whose families didn't hold acclaim, wealth, power, and especially their blood status. To speak to someone beneath you made you not a Brochand. Camille lost many a friend due to this rule.
Mathis grew to be his father's child. Strong jawed and legs long, and eyes cold, the superiority that Mathis held resonated off of him so there was no doubt as to who his father was. Hugo, Mathis' father, ensured a future for his son in his company which is an investment brokerage that works alongside the Gringotts Wizarding Bank. Mathis held a prosperous future, with his ensured job straight out of school and his arranged marriage to Elizabeth Nott.
Camille also had her future planned out since the day the Brochand's learned that they were having a baby girl. She was to be wed to Alexander Carrow as soon as she graduated from Hogwarts. There was no future career for her to have other than a stay-at-home mother like her mother and all the others before her. She was expected to have an heir first and a daughter second, there were no excuses for anything but.
The Brochand family all gathered in their dining room at precisely 8:00 pm for their dinner. They held this tradition every day, they were dressed in dress clothes as no one in the home owned any clothing that was considered, "casual."
"So this year we are going to announce your engagement to Alexander at the Yule ball the Carrows will be hosting. After such we expect you to be on your best behavior, the Carrows will not accept any disrespectful behavior so they have sent over a list of what is to be expected and what is not acceptable."
Hugo sat at the head of the table as such, he was the head of the family, his cold gaze commanding Camille to be the obedient daughter she was raised to be.
Lucille, the matriarch of the family looked excitedly to her daughter, "It will be wonderful! Everyone will be dressed in their best robes and everyone who is anyone will be in attendance. All of the sacred 28 will be there. Now, of course, I'll need to give you lessons on etiquette in the bedroom if you are to be an acceptable bride-to-be."
Camille has been dreading this talk ever since the day she met Alexander. Their marriage was arranged the second she was confirmed to be a girl. Alexander was only a year old at the time she was given birth to. As such, he has felt that he has owned her entire life. Since the moment she was to be conceived her future was his and his alone. Camille was terrified of marrying him, of bedding him. She knew he would not treat her kindly.
"I understand Father and Mother thank you for offering to teach me those lessons but I promised Narcissa that she would teach me instead, I've already sent an owl accepting her lessons". There was no message sent to Narcissa nor was there an offer made but Camille knew that Narcissa would cover for her, she was the only Malfoy she knew that was capable of kindness and empathy.
"Of course dear, I understand" Camille's mother responded, "It is so kind of Narcissa to teach you! She will be a perfect teacher on how one should act and present themselves."
"May I be excused early from dinner father? There is only a week before we return to school and need to go to Hogsmeade bright and early if I am to beat those," Camille struggled to say the words, "mud bloods that are sure to be in full force at school." Camille held no hatred in her heart for muggleborns but as a Brochand she was to show only negative feelings to those "who do not know their place."
"You may be excused. Be sure to limit your interactions I understand that there is a mudblood in all of your advanced classes so you cannot escape her but I do not wish to receive another letter from the Carrows expressing their worry you are associating with any mudbloods. Do you understand?" Hugo looked at his daughter as one would look at an amoeba through a microscope, with cold disinterest. There is no care in his eyes for a second-born girl.
Camille can only nod knowing that what she was about to do, if her father were to ever find out, would leave her whipped within an inch of her life and locked inside the cold room. That room haunted her dreams and she knew there would be no escape. She had to be careful.
Once leaving the dining room and walking far enough away that she knew her family could no longer hear her she bolted. Straight to her room and unlocked her owl's cage while grabbing a piece of parchment.
"Dear Lilly,
I've tried my hardest to remain unfazed by my father's plans but I cannot hide how terrified I am this coming Yule. They have decided to officially announce my engagement to Alexander, once this happens I know I will never be able to escape. I have to do something, anything, and I need your help. I need my best friend to help me out of here so please meet me in Diagon Alley tomorrow at 6:00 in the morning. Let's meet where we first met each other. Be sure not to respond to this, my family cannot know I am corresponding with anyone.
With love, Cami."
Both girls did not sleep soundly that night. One terrified for her future and the other terrified that she may lose her best friend forever.
Hello everyone! I have had this idea for a while but have never had the courage to write about it until now. I am incredibly nervous about all that's to come and I super hope that I continue this story as I know that aspects of this story is specific and if I don't write it no one will. Now this story is a love story between our lovely Cami and James. More importantly however I really want to focus on sort of rewriting the Harry Potter history and addressing some of the stuff that isn't exactly acknowledged in the books or movies. I also am super excited for the friendship between Lilly and Cami, they are true girls girls and I've always felt that dynamic is super fun and never boring. So... no hate for the always amazing Lilly!! I've always hated reading fanfics where they turn Lilly into some bitch for absolutely no reason. She is canonically a sweetheart and honestly why mess with that so you can make a relationship happen easier. Oml this is fkn long no one's gonna read all this.
I am going to have an update schedule of posting chapters every Sunday hopefully without fail but I dunno if they're gonna be numbered or if they will have title names. I like title names more and it's easier for re-readers but I'm also not witty so T _ T
