"We can't keep going on like this Chelsea!"
"Sure, we can Robert, I've forgiven you every single time you come home reeking of a woman's perfume! What more do you expect from me?"
I heard my parents yelling through the door of my bedroom on the night of my 8th grade graduation.
"I don't expect anything from you anymore, I've betrayed you! Can't you see that? You need to move on from me and find someone better"
"But Robert, we have kids! We've built this whole life for us, and you're just going to give it away?"
"Honey, if giving this life away means that you can go find a better man than me, then yes. A hundred times yes, I will give this away."
Then I heard murmuring, accompanied by my mother's sobs.
I looked at Charlie, who was listening to music in my headphones. Even though I'm older than him by only 16 minutes and 22 seconds, I care about him more than myself.
That's when I hear the door slam shut and footsteps walking towards my bedroom.
"C-Claire? Can I come in?" I hear my mom's soft voice ask. I open the door for her. I look up and take note of her appearance, she still had her dress on from her job as a news anchor, but her mascara was smeared down her cheeks and her eyes were puffy and red.
"Mom, what's happening?"
"You know that boarding school we've been looking into?" I nodded.
"Well, I think it's finally time for you kiddos to go to school there, Dad and I have to take care of a few things while you guys are gone okay? It won't be long, I promise" she smiles faintly at me and my twin brother, Chris.
"You Promise me?" I ask her hesitantly.
"I promise you."
Then she gathers us in a hug and reassures us everything is going to be okay.
