1- Matilda sick day
Louis, seated at the small kitchen nook, twirled a spoon absentmindedly in his tea, his eyes drifting toward the bunk area. His overprotective instincts had kicked in early that morning when Matilda hadn’t bounded out of bed with her usual enthusiasm. She wasn’t much of a morning person, but today was different. It was almost noon, and she hadn’t come out at all. Something felt off.
Niall noticed it too. “She still in bed?” he asked, his Irish accent laced with concern as he looked up from his phone.
Louis nodded, frowning slightly. “Yeah, mate. Didn’t even see her grab breakfast. Not like her at all.”
“I heard her cough a couple of times last night,” Liam chimed in from across the bus, where he was scrolling through the setlist. “Thought maybe it was just allergies or something.”
Louis set his cup down and sighed.
“Think I’ll go check on her,” He said, pushing himself up from the table.“Tell her we said hi,” Harry called from the front of the bus, where he was busy with some guitar chords.
Louis nodded but didn’t respond. His mind was already focused on Matilda as he padded quietly toward the back of the bus, where her bunk was. He reached the small curtain that concealed her bed and hesitated for a second before gently pulling it aside.
There she was, curled up in her blanket, her dark hair spilling across her pillow. Her face was pale, and her normally bright eyes were closed, her forehead slightly furrowed in discomfort. Louis’ heart sank.
“Hey, love,” he murmured softly, kneeling down next to her bunk. “You alright?”
Matilda stirred, her eyes fluttering open slowly. She blinked a few times before focusing on Louis. “Lou?” Her voice was raspy, barely above a whisper.
Louis’ frown deepened as he reached out to brush a strand of hair from her face. “Yeah, it’s me. You don’t sound too good, darling.”
“I think…” she paused, swallowing as if it pained her. “I think I’m sick.”
Louis cursed under his breath. He pressed the back of his hand to her forehead, his heart sinking further when he felt the heat radiating off her.
“You’re burning up, Matty,” Louis said, his voice soft but firm. “Why didn’t you tell me you were feeling bad?”
Matilda shifted slightly, wincing as she did. “Didn’t want to bother you guys. We’ve got the show tonight, and you’ve all been so busy.”
Louis shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips despite his concern. “You daft thing, you could never be a bother. Especially not to me.”
She offered him a weak smile, but it quickly faded as another wave of discomfort washed over her. Louis’ protective instincts flared up even more, and without another word, he stood up, his mind already racing with what needed to be done.
“Stay right there,” he said softly, though he knew she didn’t have much choice. “I’m gonna get you some medicine, yeah?”
Matilda nodded weakly, closing her eyes again. Louis hurried to the small bathroom, rifling through the cabinet until he found some cold medicine and a thermometer.
“Alright, let’s see what we’re dealing with,” he murmured, crouching beside her again. He carefully placed the thermometer in her mouth, waiting patiently for it to beep. When it finally did, he pulled it out and frowned at the number.
“38.9,” he muttered to himself. “Bloody hell, that’s a proper fever.”
Matilda’s eyes flickered open again. “Is it bad?” she rasped.
Louis gave her a soft smile, trying to keep his voice calm. “Nothing we can’t handle, love. Just need to get you some rest and keep you hydrated, yeah?”
She nodded weakly. He handed her the medicine, helping her sit up just enough to take it, then handed her a bottle of water.
“There you go,” he said gently, brushing her hair back again once she was settled. “Just sip on that, alright?”
Matilda nodded, her eyes already closing again. Just then Zayn came there.
“Do you want a bowl of soup or something? Paul is saying that he will ask Sarah to make it urgently if it’s needed”.
“Maybe later. Right now she seems to be needing a bit of sleep.” Louis replied.
“Alright yeah. Take care, Matty.” Zayn said and turned to leave.
When she finally seemed to drift off into a light sleep, Louis stood up and made his way back to the front of the bus. The lads were all still seated, waiting for an update.
“How’s she doing?” Liam asked, looking up from his phone.
Louis sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “She’s burning up. Got a fever and a bad cough. Gave her some medicine, but I think we might need to keep an eye on her.”
Zayn nodded, leaning back in his seat. “Do you think she’ll be alright for the show tonight?”
Louis shook his head immediately. “No way. She’s not performing tonight, no chance. She needs to rest. I’ll stay with her, make sure she’s alright.”
Niall exchanged a look with Harry, concern etched on both their faces. “You sure, Lou? We could—”
“I’ve got it,” Louis interrupted, his voice leaving no room for argument. “I’m not leaving her. You lot can handle the show without me tonight and plus our management will understand.”
----------------------------------------------By the time evening rolled around, Matilda woke up with a groggy groan, her voice still raspy but a little stronger than before.
“Louis?”
He appeared at her side almost instantly, his blue eyes full of concern. “I’m right here, love. How you feeling?”
She sniffled, her head heavy on the pillow. “Still pretty rubbish.”
Louis chuckled softly, though his worry remained. “Yeah, you’re not getting out of bed anytime soon. The lads are doing the show without us tonight.”
Matilda’s eyes widened slightly. “Without you? But—”
“Shh, don’t worry about that,” Louis interrupted gently.
She looked at him for a moment, her eyes soft with gratitude. “Thanks, Lou.”----------------------------------------------
