6- Matilda gets harassed

The energy backstage at the sold-out arena was . Matilda had slipped away from the boys for a moment to catch her breath in a quiet corner near the green room, hoping to steal a minute of peace. But peace was the last thing she found.

A man she didn’t recognize—a fan, maybe, or some overzealous backstage worker—sidled up to her, way too close for comfort.

“Hey, I know you, you’re Matilda from One Direction, yeah?” His voice was thick with arrogance, and he leaned in uncomfortably close, making her instinctively step back. She forced a polite smile, trying not to cause a scene.

“Yeah, that’s me,” she said, her voice wavering a little. Her eyes darted around, hoping one of the boys was nearby, but they were still probably cooling down from the set.

“You know, I’ve been following you since you joined. Always thought you were the cutest,” the man continued, his smile predatory. “I bet the lads don’t even realize how lucky they are, having a girl like you in the band.”

Matilda’s stomach churned, and she tried to keep her expression neutral. She didn’t want to panic, but her instincts were screaming at her to get out of there. The guy wasn’t backing off. He took another step forward, crowding her space.

“How about a picture? Just you and me?” His hand reached out toward her arm, and she flinched.

Before she could even think of how to respond, a familiar voice cut through the air, sharp as a knife.

“Oi, what the hell do you think you’re doing?”

Matilda whipped her head around just as Louis came storming toward them, his face set in a hard line. His eyes were blazing with fury.

He stepped between her and the man in an instant, shoving the guy back with surprising force.

The man’s cocky grin faltered. “I was just talking to her, mate, chill—”

“Talking, my arse,” Louis snapped, his voice low and dangerous. “You don’t get to talk to her like that, got it? You don’t even get to look at her like that. Now, get the hell out before I make you.”

Before the man could react, the rest of the boys appeared as if out of nowhere. Liam and Niall flanked Louis, both of them wearing the same protective expressions, while Harry and Zayn stood behind them, arms crossed, looking like they were ready to jump in at any second.

“What’s going on here?” Liam asked, his eyes narrowing as he glanced from Louis to the man. “Matilda, are you alright?”

She nodded, though her heart was still racing. “Yeah, I’m okay,” she said quietly, grateful for the sudden appearance of them.

Harry’s voice was calm, but there was an edge to it. “I suggest you leave now before you make an even bigger mistake.”

The man raised his hands defensively. “Alright, alright, I’m going, no need to get so worked up.” He shot a final glance at Matilda, as if he was about to say something else, but one look at Louis’ expression shut him up. With a muttered curse, he turned on his heel and walked away quickly.

As soon as he was out of sight, Louis turned to Matilda, his face softening instantly. “You okay, love?”

Matilda let out a shaky breath and nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. He didn’t… I mean, he didn’t do anything, really, but he just wouldn’t leave me alone.”

Louis pulled her into a tight hug, his chin resting on top of her head. “You should’ve come to find me, love. I wouldn’t have let you be alone with a creep like that.”

She pressed her face against his chest, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. “I didn’t think… I didn’t want to bother you guys.”

“Bother us?” Niall scoffed from behind her. “Mats, you’re never a bother. You should’ve shouted. I would’ve dropkicked him for ya.” He winked, though there was a seriousness In his voice that told her he wasn’t entirely joking.

Liam crossed his arms and gave her a soft smile. “He’s right, you know. You don’t have to handle stuff like that on your own. You’ve got us.”

Zayn stepped forward and rested a hand on her shoulder. “We’d never let anything happen to you, Matilda. That guy was lucky we didn’t do worse.”

“I know,” she said, her voice thick. “I’m really lucky to have you guys.”

Louis finally pulled back from the hug, but he kept a hand on her shoulder, his thumb rubbing soothing circles. “We’re the lucky ones, darlin’. You bring so much to the band, don’t ever forget that.”

Harry nodded in agreement, his green eyes soft. “You’re stuck with us, kiddo.”

“Yeah, no more sneaking off on your own,” Liam added, teasing but firm. “If you need a breather, we’ll make sure one of us is always around, alright?”

Matilda smiled. “Alright,” she agreed.

Louis gave her one last squeeze before stepping back and ruffling her hair. “Good. Now, how about we get you some ice cream? My treat.”

Matilda grinned. “You’re on.”
