5- Louis gets sick and Matilda takes his care
The city outside the hotel window was alive with the hum of nightlife, but inside their room, it was eerily quiet. Louis lay in bed, his usually vibrant face now pale, his hair tousled and damp from fever. Matilda sat on the edge of his bed, her eyes filled with concern. She had tucked him in, her hands smoothing the blanket over him with the care of someone much older than her eighteen years.
Louis shivered slightly, pulling the covers tighter around him. His breathing was uneven, a soft groan escaping his lips as another wave of discomfort washed over him. Matilda bit her lip, her heart aching to see him like this. He was always the strong one, the one who made everyone laugh, and seeing him so vulnerable felt wrong.
She reached out, placing a cool hand on his forehead. "You're burning up, Louis,” she whispered, her voice soft and soothing. “You need to rest.”
Louis opened his eyes slightly, his blue eyes glassy with fever. He tried to muster a smile, but it was weak. “I’m alright, love,” he murmured, his voice hoarse. “Don’t worry ‘bout me.”
Matilda shook her head, her expression firm. “No, you’re not. You need to take care of yourself, and I’m here to make sure you do.”
He chuckled softly, the sound weak and raspy. “Aren’t you supposed to be the one I’m lookin’ after?”
”Not tonight,” she replied, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Tonight, I’m in charge.”
Louis shifted slightly, wincing as he tried to sit up. Matilda immediately placed a hand on his chest, gently pushing him back down. “Stay put, Louis. You need to rest.”
He looked up at her, his eyes softening. “You’re too good, y’know that? I don’t deserve ya.”
”Of course, you do,” she said, her voice gentle. “You’re like a brother to me, Louis. And I take care of my family.”
Louis’s heart swelled at her words.
Matilda stood up, walking over to the small kitchenette in the room. She poured a glass of water and grabbed a few fever-reducing tablets. Returning to Louis’s side, she handed him the pills and the glass. “Take these. They’ll help with the fever.”
He took them without protest, trusting her completely. As he swallowed the pills, she placed the glass on the bedside table and sat back down beside him. “You need to stay hydrated too,” she added, her tone gentle but firm.
Louis nodded, feeling a little guilty for making her worry. “Sorry, love. Didn’t mean to be a burden.”
”You’re not a burden, Louis,” she said softly, her eyes meeting his. “You’ve always been there for me, more than anyone else. Let me be there for you now.”
He smiled weakly, reaching out to take her hand. “Thank you, Matty. You’re somethin’ special, y’know that?”
She squeezed his hand gently, her eyes shining with affection. “You’re special too, Louis. More than you realize.”
They sat there in silence for a moment, the only sound the soft ticking of the clock on the wall. Matilda could see Louis’s eyelids growing heavier, the exhaustion taking over.
She leaned forward, adjusting the blanket around him once more. “Get some sleep, okay? I’ll be right here If you need anything.”
Louis nodded, his eyes fluttering shut. “Stay with me, yeah?”
”Always,” she whispered, brushing a strand of hair from his forehead. “I’m not going anywhere.”A knock on the door startled both of them. Zayn and Liam entered the room.
“You look like shit, mate" Zayn said trying to lighten the mood.
“Zayn! That's not nice" Matilda scolded playfully even though she knew that Zayn was trying to lighten the atmosphere.
“Woah okay!" Zayn raised his hand in a mock surrender making Matilda giggle.
“Where are other two?" Louis asked referring to Harry and Niall who were not present in the room.
“Niall found a outlet of Nando's nearby. Harry's gone with him and they are bringing lunch for us. But for you," Liam wiggled his finger at Louis. "For you soup is coming only maybe a few break sticks if you can eat."
Louis groaned but he knows that he can't eat too much right now considering the condition of his throat.
“Alright, alright, give Louis some time and space so that he can rest." Matilda said.
“Oh look at you bossy pants" Liam and Zayn gave her a look that made her giggle again. Louis chuckled and looked at boys raising an eyebrow playfully.
"Yeah, let the patient rest, you wankers." He said and gave them a smirk.
“Alright we're leaving." Liam said walking towards the door.
“Get well soon, Lou." Zayn said over his shoulder before leaving.
“They are such good friends." Matilda said smiling. Louis smiled and closed his eyes.
“Yeah, they are the best."
