The soft hues of dawn filtered through the curtains of the apartment, casting gentle shadows on the walls. Kara stirred awake to the distant sounds of the city beginning its day. Beside her, Diana slept peacefully, her dark hair cascading over the pillow. Kara smiled softly, feeling a profound sense of gratitude for the life they had built together.

She carefully slipped out of bed, not wanting to disturb Diana, and made her way to Kal's room. Opening the door quietly, she peeked inside. Kal was still asleep, his small chest rising and falling rhythmically. At six years old, he was growing faster than she could have imagined. His dark hair was tousled, and his hand clutched a plush toy—a gift from Diana—close to his chest.

Kara watched him for a moment, her heart swelling with love. Lately, she had noticed changes in Kal. Little things that hinted at his emerging abilities. She knew this day would come but hadn't expected it so soon. Closing the door gently, she decided to let him sleep a little longer.

In the kitchen, Kara began preparing breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as she cracked eggs into a bowl. Moments later, she heard the soft padding of footsteps behind her.

"Morning," Diana's voice greeted warmly.

"Good morning," Kara replied, turning to share a quick kiss. "I was just about to make pancakes. Think Kal will be up soon?"

As if on cue, they heard a muffled thump followed by a surprised yelp from Kal's room. Exchanging a concerned glance, both women hurried down the hallway.

When they opened Kal's door, they found him sitting on the floor next to his bed, rubbing his elbow.

"Kal, are you okay?" Kara asked, kneeling beside him.

He looked up, eyes wide with confusion. "I think so. I was reaching for my toy on the shelf, and I... I jumped too high."

Diana glanced at the shelf, which was several feet above his bed. "You jumped from the bed and reached the top shelf?" she asked gently.

Kal nodded slowly. "I didn't mean to. It just happened."

Kara and Diana exchanged a knowing look. Kara placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "It's okay, sweetheart. Let's get you up."

As they helped him stand, Kara noticed that his pajamas were slightly singed at the sleeves.

"Kal, what happened to your shirt?" she inquired, trying to keep her voice steady.

He looked down, surprised. "I don't know. I felt warm when I woke up, and then my sleeves looked like this."

Diana crouched to his level. "Kal, has anything else strange happened lately? Anything you'd like to tell us?"

He hesitated, biting his lower lip. "Sometimes... I hear things. Like, really far away. And sometimes, I can see through stuff. Like when I was at school, I could see Miss Jenkins in the other room without being there."

Kara took a deep breath, exchanging another glance with Diana. It was time to have a conversation they'd been anticipating.

"Kal," Kara began softly, "there's something we need to talk about."

They settled in the living room, Kal nestled between them on the couch. Kara took his hand, her gaze gentle.

"You know that you're special, right?" she said.

He nodded. "Because I'm from Krypton like you?"

"Yes," she smiled. "Because you're Kryptonian, you have abilities that other kids don't. As you grow, you'll start to notice them more."
