She was standing there, with a wailing babe in her arms. The town around her was burning down to the ground.

"wait here! I'll be right back" her dad had said.

And so she did, she stood there and waited, her sister still crying as she saw her father run into their burning home. The home where she grew up and was running around is now about to be gone forever.

Vaelora stood there petrified. She thought it couldn't get worse, she had seen her aunt, uncle, and cousins burned alive when the fire hit their village. But the gods have a cruel way of proving her wrong as she saw her house collapse in flames with her father still inside...

They had escaped along with another 17 people from the village. They fled on a couple of small fishermen's boats while she watched her home, her village her entire island burn to a crisp.

Vaelora was but 5 years old but with her mother gone and now her father turned to ash she alone now had to take care of her 1 year old sister. Lyraella needed her but she had never even heard of the place they were sailing for.

The fisherman who helped her escape was Harrold. She didn't know much about him but in winter when food was scarce he used to give whatever he could to her family. Now he was helping her once again, his brother lived in another small fishing village on the coast of Dragonstone, which is on the coast of Westeros. The trip could take days they said.

The boat was made for two people yet they were now on it with 5 not including the baby. The fisherman, his wife, their two kids, and of course Vaelora and Lyraella. They were cramped.

It's now been a fortnight of straight sailing. They were all seasick, Lyraella had been surprisingly easy but Vaelora hadn't been used to taking care of her alone.

They were getting close to Westeros. She could see great big cliffs with waves crashing against the rocks in the distance. The castles were so tall that you could see them from this far out into the ocean. Harrold had said it was a place called Storm's End.

It was a rough night out at sea. There was a storm the previous night. Thunder and lightning danced in the skies and the winds howled like wolves during a full moon.

The sun was now slowly rising, and the water was colored orange in the sunrise. They were all but 2 hours away from Dragonstone. Harrold had been kind to her but that hadn't helped the black hole in her heart get better.

She's always been mature for her age but at the end of the day she was a child. A small, fierce, tiny 5 year old child.

As they entered the port of Dragonstone she began to weep. She'd cried a lot in the past weeks but not like this. That was grief now it was realization. They'd left, everyone she'd ever known was dead or here on this boat with her. She'd now be responsible for looking after her baby sister while she was still practically a baby herself, and all that in a place she'd never seen before.

It seemed like a nice enough place, the village was slightly larger than where they'd lived before but much uglier.

They used to live on a small island in the summer isles. It wasn't special but cozy, warm... The palm trees used to be so tall they almost touched the sky. The ocean used to look a lot like it does now, orange, like the sun. In the summer isles, the sun would be up all the time, even at night and the water would turn this greenish colour. It was beautiful.

Vaelora missed it. Her mother used to sit there and stroke her hair as they looked out onto the water from the great big hill next to their house. The hill had a coconut tree on it. You could see the whole island from there. But then her mother gave birth. She was overjoyed to have a little sister, she finally wouldn't have to be alone anymore, but then her mum passed and she felt more alone than she ever had.

She loved her dad, she did, but he worked from sunrise to sundown, he'd sail in this little fishing boat all day catching what he could and selling it at the next islands over. She was used to taking care of her sister on her own but not with absolutely no help at all. Her aunt and uncle had lived with them and they'd help her, shed also be able to play and laugh with their kids but that was all gone now. She'd have to find food and shelter and raise Lyria all on her own...

They arrived here about 3 hours ago and Vaelora was now sitting inside Harrold's brother's house. His name was Matt. He seemed nice enough, Vaelora hadn't built up an opinion yet.

But none of that matters she supposed. This house was way too small, there was no way she could stay here. The house had 2 rooms. A kitchen/lounge and a bedroom with a bathroom in it. Well if you could call it a bathroom, it's a room with a water pipe in it and a hole in the ground to do your business in. And they were already living here with 2 adults and a kid.

Now they had to take in Harrold and his family too. She didn't want Lyraella to grow up in a place like this. Luckily her dad had taught her how to look after herself a long time ago. He did work a lot but when he wasn't he'd be with her, probably camping somewhere.

She learned a lot from him, including how to light a fire and find shelter. Her plan was to leave after dinner and find an abandoned house or a cave to stay in. It was still the long summer so it wouldn't get that cold.

She'd found a nice home for her to stay. It wasn't much but it was much better for Lyraella and that was all she cared about.

The home was missing the windows and a part of the roof flew off but it was better than nothing.

The village was on the coast but this house was more on the mainland which meant it was closer to the castle. If she was lucky a couple of knights or maybe even some lords may pass by and help her out. At the end of the day begging as a child gave you more chance to get a copper or two.

Harrold has said that he'd bring whatever leftovers he could from his fishing trips but he couldn't promise it would be every day. She'd try to go find food in town, a nice pigeon or some berries. But where'd she put Lyria while she did that?

She supposed she'd have to find out...
