Chapter 22
Reese
This is such bullshit! We're on the fucking tarmac and they stopped the damn plane from taking off. What else can go wrong? Standing up, I walk down the aisle to the air hostess. She gives me that polite 'fuck off' smile that most people don't see for what it really is. They don't want to be bothered with questions from the passengers.
"Can you please tell me what the problem is?" I ask her, not caring that my seatbelt is off or that I'm out of my seat. It's not like we're moving.
"Mr. Tateman, we'll be on our way shortly. We just have to return to the gate for just a moment. Please, if you'll take your seat." She turns me around to show me back to my seat.
"No! Why are we going back!? For God sakes! First, we were delayed, now we have to go back! What the fucks going on?!" I'm frustrated enough over leaving Molly behind. I don't need this run around!
"Sir!" At the sound of a more authoritative tone, I spin around to see what I assume is the senior official on the plane. "This was sent for you from the tower." She holds out a note for me. Opening it up, I read the brief message.
Sit down
Shut up
Fix it!Nate
What the fuck?
I slowly walk back to my seat and drop myself down hard into my seat. As soon as I do, we begin moving back to the terminal. We lock back into the terminal and I can see the tunnel reattaching to the plane. So much for getting out of here. Closing my eyes, I rest my head back on the soft leather seat and wait.
"Mr. Tateman, I'm sorry to disturb you, but could you come with me, please?" The nervous little hostess bites down on her lip looking at me like I might take a big bite out of her. I might. I'm that pissed off right now.
"Why not..." Growling under my breath, I grab my carry on. "Why the fuck not!" Grumbling to myself about how I'm renting a private plane from now on, I move out of the plane.
I'm escorted off of the plane and back down the ramp. The door opens on the other end and I'm guided back into the air conditioned terminal. The lady waiting for me motions with her hand toward the desk, where there is a long line of passengers waiting to check in.
"You're fucking kidding me?!" I glare heatedly, looking at the long line then back to her.
"If you go to the desk, they'll be able to help you." She once again gives me the fuck off grin.
Stalking over, I quicken my pace as soon as I hear that familiar panicked voice. "I have to get to New York! You don't understand! I missed my flight, it just took off and I need to get there! It's so important! I screwed up so badly and lost the man I've loved my entire life. I didn't get to tell him before he left and I have to tell him!"
"Molly?" My voice sounds distant in my head, my throat is dry, tight as I say her name. It sounds weird hearing my voice in my head. I'm afraid it's not real. Like seeing her here is a dream.
That must be it, I've fallen asleep on the plane.
She spins around and I see her breath hitch several times as the dam breaks loose. Her tears streamed down her cheeks as she rushed me. Jumping into my arms, she latches tight around my neck, her legs are like a vice around my waist and her mouth crashes on to mine.
Emotions wash over me and flood through my heart. Is it real? She's here, she came and... wait? She told the lady she's loved me all her life!
"You're here!" Her words are muffled by her kisses over my face. "I'm not too late! I thought I lost you. I thought you left before I could tell you. Oh...oh...oh Reese! I didn't lose you."
