Author POV

"Ah."

The voice sliced through the comfortable quiet of the living room. It was Nino, leaning casually against the polished glass railings of the second-floor landing. Her gaze was fixed on Y/N and Futarou below, a smile playing on her lips, but it wasn't a pleasant smile. It was that specific, mischievous, scheming expression Y/N had grown wary of. He knew that look intimately; it was the face of a chess master about to sacrifice a pawn. A knot tightened in Y/N's stomach. Nino was absolutely about to pull something.

Both tutors swiveled to face her, Futarou's expression already hardening into annoyance.

"Oh? Are you still desperately trying, even though you haven't realized the truth yet?" Her tone was laced with a thick, syrupy sarcasm, her eyes narrowing just slightly as she focused her cutting words on Futarou. The air instantly crackled with tension.

"Nino..." Futarou let out a heavy sigh, running a hand through his perpetually messy hair. He sensed the incoming storm, the familiar routine of their clashes beginning all over again.

"Just try not to fall asleep this time like you did last week," she continued, pushing off the railing to stand upright, clearly enjoying his reaction. "That alone would be an improvement over your usual performance."

"Tch... That was because of your damn medicine you slipped into my drink..." His voice hitched, cutting himself off abruptly. He could feel his temper flaring, the familiar urge to shout and retaliate bubbling up. He clenched his jaw, the muscle ticking in his cheek as he muttered under his breath, eyes tightly shut. "Wait, I can't lose my temper... Be gentle... Be gentle..." He forced a composed, albeit strained, expression back onto his face, breathing deeply to suppress the rising frustration. The battle lines had been drawn, and the war was officially back on.

"If you want, Nino, you can always join us." Y/N offered the invitation with a light, teasing smile, his eyes sparkling with amusement. He knew, with absolute certainty, what her response would be, which only added to his playful bravado.

Nino's reaction was instantaneous and venomous. "Over. My. Dead. Body." She spat each word like a curse, folding her arms across her chest with an exaggerated huff, the defiance in her posture as clear as day. The very idea seemed to offend her on a deeply personal level.

Futarou, sensing the diplomatic relations rapidly deteriorating, quickly intervened. "F-For now, four's enough..." He muttered, desperately trying to keep the peace and de-escalate the tension, though his voice completely lacked conviction. He pinched the bridge of his nose, the silent thought echoing through his mind: 'Why is she always like this? Why can't we just have one peaceful day?'

Y/N pressed his luck, his grin widening, thoroughly enjoying her flustered state. "If you change your mind, we could always make room for one more." His eyes twinkled with genuine amusement.

"Yes!" The voices of the other girls, Itsuki, Miku, and Yotsuba chimed in enthusiastically in unison, completely unaware of the delicate tightrope walk of emotions occurring between their sister and the tutors.

"Y-You...!" Nino's voice cracked in disbelief at the sudden agreement, her face turning a deep shade of crimson. She was caught off guard, suspended between flustered fury and an underlying, carefully hidden embarrassment.

With a final, satisfying smirk in Nino's direction, Y/N casually turned away from her, smoothly facing the other Nakano sisters with a calm, easygoing smile, effectively dismissing her outburst as irrelevant.

"Well, ignore Nino for now. She clearly doesn't want to join us, so shall we get started, girls?"

But just as things were about to begin, just as the group below prepared to move on, Nino's voice cut through the air once more, sharp and decisive.
"Yotsuba."
