"Be back by dinner, Kaya! And tell Riggs I said hi, please." Kaya's mom said as she grabbed a box of pasta from one of the many top shelves of the kitchen. "Alright, mom! I shouldn't be gone for long. Riggs and me were gonna make a snowmen. Or... a snow-woman." Kaya laughed as she tied her big snow boots. "Bye!" Her mom said as Kaya left the house.

Kaya let out a deep, warm breath. A cloud of air circling around her head now. "Time to go find Riggs!" Kaya said to herself as she trampled through the snow. Kaya had met Riggs in 3rd grade. So about 4 years ago. In the winter, they would hang out in their secret tree-house in the woods. They knew they were at that age where two seventh graders playing in a tree house would be considered 'cringe'. But they didn't care. As long as they were happy.

Kaya kept stumbling in the snow and losing her balance. "Damn, the snow is super thick today-" she whispered to herself. But to her, it honestly felt like a leg workout. Having to tread through the dense snow, and wear heavy (yet warm) clothes was a workout.

After a few minutes, she had reached the tree fort. "Riggs! Are you up there?" She called out to him. Only to be met with the quiet sound of snow. "Hm, guess I'm early for once." Kaya muttered and climbed up the ladder. She walked over to a little frozen cushion and sat on it. 'Guess I'll wait for him to come.' She thought to herself. She was normally the one who was late. And she felt a slight pang of confusion in her chest as the time dragged on. Kaya sighed and leaned her head against the tree behind her, resting her eyes.

"Hello, Kaya!" Riggs said as he climbed up the ladder to the treehouse. "Oh, finally you're here!" Kaya perked up and walked over to the ladder, waiting for him to climb up. "The snow is thick today." "Agreed!" Kaya giggled and helped him stand up straight. "What do you want to do today?" She asked as her gaze landed on his. Riggs thought for a moment, putting a gloved hand on his chin. "Let's play Uno! I brought a deck~" Kaya raised a brow. "Really? I mean, I love Uno. But... are we going to okay on the snow? Wont the cards get wet?" She asked and tilted her head in a curios manner. "Correct, my dear friend. That is why I brought this handy backpack we can play on!" Riggs explained as he put his backpack on the snow between them. Placing the cards on top. Kaya nodded and smiled. "Let's start then! I'll shuffle. You can pass out the cards."

"Uno!" Riggs exclaimed as he put down a red four. "Damn it!!! I don't have any reds..." she whispered to herself and drew a card. Her eyes lit up when it was a wild. She instantly threw it down. "Wild! I change to color to... yellow!" Riggs chuckled. "Oh... poor Kaya. You really shouldn't have done that.... Bless your heart." Riggs said as he put down his final card; a yellow nine. "Darn it.." Kaya internally cursed and threw the rest of her deck down. "Good game..." Riggs smirked and rubbed his hands together.

"Kaya! Dinner!!!" Her mom called from the house. "Drat, I guess I have to go. We are having pasta tonight." "Can I come with you? My mom isn't home right now, and neither is my dad. They are both at an important meeting... or something." Riggs mumbled and looked down at his boots. "Sure! My mom won't mind." Kaya giggled and went down the slide; Riggs coming down behind her. "Oomph!" She exclaimed as they collided. "Hah! That hurt!" Riggs laughed and stood up. "It did. It did indeed." He smirked as a faint pink crept onto his cheeks.

"Come with me." Kaya said as they walked down the path. "Hope you like pasta." She turned to face him. "I do like pasta. It's nice." He smiled, and kept walking.

"This is some good pasta, Mrs. Stone!" Riggs said to Kaya's mom as he added some cheese to his pasta. "Why, thanks you! Your such a nice boy." Her mom giggled and ate some pasta herself. "Thanks, mom." Kaya said and wiped her mouth.

"Well, I finished my food, and my parents are most likely back. So I should probably get going." Riggs said as he put his dishes and silverware away. "Oh okay, tell your mom I said hi!" Her mom said, and waved goodbye. "C'mere." Riggs mumbled and took Kaya with him. "Oh, where are we going?" "Just to talk a little before I go." He explained. "Oh okay. Thanks for hanging out with me today! Same time tomorrow?" Kaya asked and sat down next to him as he tied his shoes. "Sure." He sat up and threw on his jacket. "See ya, princess." He said with a smirk and left the house. "....'princess?'" She felt her face heat up a little.
