CHAPTER FIVE. Friday Night Bites

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

HE FELT LIKE HE HAD TO PROTECT HER. And he had never felt like an overprotective person before. But after the Damon Incident, he had never wanted to make sure someone was safe more. She was a walking fairy-tale. She had this love for animals (which made him feel guilty for killing so many), she loved reading, she was so happy and carefree despite somehow being an over thinker and likely to complain about her feet after walking too long, and she was so nice it almost made him wish he never met her.

So, Stefan Salvatore called Hazel Greenwood, asking if she and Sadie McCullough wanted a ride to school. And of course, oblivious to his guilt, they both said yes.

"You kissed her?" Hazel looked at with wide eyes, her mouth open in surprise. Stefan had a small smile on his face. He nodded slowly as he focused on the road in front of him. "You kissed Elena on my birthday?" Sadie started to giggle as Hazel scoffed. "And all I got was some stuffed animals from my parents."

Sadie rolled her eyes. "Do you also want to kiss Elena for your birthday?" She teased. Even Stefan cracked a smile at this. He'd never been able to joke with anyone in so long, and they made it so easy. Maybe it's because of how they handled the world. So carefree, so loose. They took what came in the waves of life, hoping for the best and trying to navigate the worst. There was so much hope in his car, it was so unfamiliar.

"Hey! Don't turn this around on me!" Hazel turned and suddenly pointed at Stefan. "You're the one making moves and you've only been in school for a few days."

"I'm not making moves."

"Dear diary. I met a girl." Hazel started reciting the story Stefan told them. She leaned back dramatically, putting the back of her hand to her forehead. "We talked. It was epic."

Sadie leaned forward. "But then the sun came up, and reality set in." She turned to Hazel, caressing the redheads face as she leaned closer. "This is reality."

Hazel and Sadie started making fake kissing sounds with puckered lips, giggling as Stefan shook his head at them both. "You two are impossible."

"Impossibly irresistible? Thank you, I know." Hazel winked, flipping her hair dramatically, letting it smack Sadie in the face before the brunette sat back. "So, are you two dating?"

"Yeah,"

"And are you excited?" Sadie asked, looking at Stefan through the mirror.

Stefan couldn't hide the smile on his face, not when he has two girls he had quickly became friends with squealing and jumping in their seats for him. Hazel slapped his arm, gasping. "This is so cute. I can't believe this is my life right now!" Hazel put her face in her hands, shaking her head wildly. "This is straight out of a book." She winked.
