As the days passed after their quiet moment in the garden, the bond between Wei Ying and Wangji deepened. Their love, once playful and full of teasing, had transformed into something profound—an understanding that ran deeper than words. Both knew their lives would never be the same again. They were building something together that neither could imagine being without.
One evening, they found themselves sitting under a large willow tree by a lake near Wangji's estate. The sun was setting, casting hues of orange and pink across the sky. Wei Ying leaned back against the tree trunk, resting his head on Wangji's shoulder, enjoying the quiet serenity of the moment.
"I never thought I'd find peace like this," Wei Ying whispered, looking up at the sky. "Especially with someone like you."
Wangji turned slightly, his hand gently caressing Wei Ying's fingers. "Someone like me?"
Wei Ying smiled softly, his gaze now focused on the water. "Serious, focused, always thinking ahead. It's like you see the world in a different light than I do. And yet, you ground me."
Wangji shook his head lightly, the faint trace of a smile on his lips. "You bring out the side of me I never knew I had, Wei Ying. You make me laugh. You make me feel... alive."
Wei Ying's heart swelled with affection. He shifted to sit up straighter, turning to face Wangji. "You've done more for me than you know. And now I want to do something for you."
Wangji raised an eyebrow, curious. "What is it?"
Taking a deep breath, Wei Ying reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, intricately carved box. He opened it to reveal two simple, yet elegant rings. "I want to spend my life with you, Wangji. I don't need anything extravagant, no fancy ceremony... just you and me. Will you marry me?"
Wangji's expression softened into something tender, the intensity in his eyes filled with love. He gently took one of the rings from the box, placing it onto Wei Ying's finger before reaching for the other. "Wei Ying, I would be honored to spend every moment of my life by your side."
Wei Ying grinned, his heart beating faster as Wangji slid the ring onto his finger. "I guess that's a yes, then."
Wangji nodded, his voice barely above a whisper. "Yes. Always, yes."
With the sunset as their witness, they shared a kiss that sealed their commitment to one another. It wasn't just a promise of love—it was a vow to face whatever life threw at them together, as partners, as lovers, and soon, as husbands.
