The days following their engagement passed in a quiet yet joyful anticipation. Wei Ying and Wangji had made their promise to one another, but it wasn't just their bond that was growing. In the weeks after their commitment, Wei Ying had begun to notice the subtle changes in his body. The realization had filled him with both excitement and trepidation.
One evening, they sat together on the balcony of their shared home, enjoying the cool night breeze. The stars sparkled above, casting a peaceful glow on the city below. Wangji, as always, sat close, his presence grounding and reassuring.
"Wei Ying," Wangji began, his voice gentle as he glanced at him. "There's been something on my mind lately."
Wei Ying turned to him, resting a hand on his stomach, which had only just begun to show the signs of their growing child. "What is it, Wangji?"
Wangji's gaze softened, his hand finding Wei Ying's. "It's about the baby. How are you feeling? You haven't said much, and I know this wasn't part of our original plan so soon after the engagement."
Wei Ying sighed, feeling the warmth of Wangji's hand and the love behind his words. "It's... overwhelming, in a good way. I didn't expect to be pregnant, not this soon. But now, I can't imagine things any other way." He smiled softly, looking down at the gentle curve of his stomach. "I'm happy, Wangji. Really happy."
Wangji's expression shifted into one of deep tenderness. He reached out, gently resting his hand over Wei Ying's. "I'm happy too. I just want to make sure you're alright... that we're ready for this."
Wei Ying leaned into him, his heart swelling with affection. "I'm ready. I know it'll be hard at times, but we're in this together. And I've already imagined what our life will be like—with a little one running around."
Wangji smiled, the image of their future together filling his mind. "I've imagined it too. And I'll be here, every step of the way. For you, for our child. Whatever you need."
Wei Ying felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes, overwhelmed by the love he felt for Wangji and the life they were about to create. "We'll make this work. And we'll make a beautiful family."
With that, Wangji leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to Wei Ying's growing belly. "Our family," he whispered, his voice filled with promise and love
