To be honest, the young prince never thought about a wife and children. All he cared about was training with his mother and dragons. Well, at least that was the case until his brother and the girl Velaryon had a daughter. Aenys began to spend less time with him than usual. And they had only just begun to get along like brothers. Maegor was filled with discontent, even though he tried not to show it. What was so special about this baby? He could neither talk nor walk.

"He found himself a friend of his own mind," the boy thought.
Even when Aenys showed him the girl, he did not understand anything at all.

— Isn't she beautiful? My sweet girl, the princess of my soul, - Aenys whispered tenderly, looking at the baby in his arms.

He was so happy that Maegor suddenly wanted to have his own child. He wanted to understand what it was like to have his own blood and flesh. Will he flutter around the baby like his brother?
The first thing Maegor did when he returned to Dragonstone was to address his mother with all seriousness:

— Mother, I would like to marry.

To say that his mother was surprised was to say nothing.

— Why all of a sudden? You never cared for ladies before.

— Aenys has a child, I do not wish to be left behind.

After some thought, she finally agreed with him.

— Very well, I will speak with your father. Perhaps he will agree to your marriage to Aenys's daughter.

— Thank you, mother.

To his mother's dismay, his father and brother refused to give him the girl in marriage.

— Idiots! We must continue to uphold the traditions of our house!

Instead of Aenys's daughter, his father decided to marry him to the High Septon's niece, Ceryse Hightower. But Maegor didn't care who would be the mother of his child. He just wanted to see his baby. To feel what his brother felt. And he wasn't lying when he said he didn't want to lag behind his brother. If Aenys had a child, then he should have one too.
Ceryse Hightower was quite a pretty girl: fair skin, hair the color of the sun, gathered in a bun, a white dress that emphasized her cleavage, blue eyes like the sky. Their child would not be ugly.

— Be happy, brother, Aenys said with a smile.

— Of course.

"As soon as she bears my child, I will be happy."

He made sure to come inside her twelve times, so that she would be sure to get pregnant.
And after a couple of such nights, to his delight, she was pregnant.
His mother looked quite pleased with this news. To his surprise, his father shared his mother's emotions. It was unexpected. He rarely saw his father proud of them or happy for him.
Aenys was happy for him too.

— Congratulations, brother! You'll be a father soon too. By the way, Alyssa is pregnant again, too, our children will be the same age.
— I'm glad.

Only Alyssa looked unhappy. And that didn't surprise Maegor. The bitch was unhappy that the feast was being held to celebrate two pregnancies at once, and not just hers.

                              ***

The months passed quickly, and Maegor continued to patiently wait for the child to be born. For the sake of its good development, he fulfilled all of Ceryse demands.
And then one day the day he had been waiting for arrived. During the day, his training with Maester Corbray was interrupted by a servant with a joyful report:

— Lady Ceryse is in labor!

Only because of such good news did Maegor not kill the servant for interrupting the training.

— Very well.

— You will not go to her?

— She has her mother and maesters with her, I trust her to them. Let us continue, Ser Corbray!

A few hours later, the labor was over.

— Lady Ceryse has safely given birth to a daughter. Queen Visenya wishes to see you.

A daughter, just like Aenys's. Maegor broke into a run. He had a daughter. His child.
Running into the chambers, he did not look at his wife, but went straight to his mother, who was standing by her bedside, holding a bundle in her arms with a smile. A smile on a mother's face is such a rarity.

— You are just in time, my son. Look at the miracle your wife has given you, - his mother said and handed him the bundle.

He took it uncertainly in his arms. She looked like an ordinary baby, red, with a wrinkled face. She was beautiful.
He felt joy when he looked at her. His daughter. Only his. He would never give her to anyone.

"So that is what Aenys felt."

Now Maegor understood.

— Ahem, you have already decided what to call her, haven't you?
— I think it would suit her...
— Rhaenyra. Her name will be Rhaenyra, - he interrupted his wife.

Both women looked at him in surprise.

— What kind of name is that?
— In honor of the late Queen Rhaenys.

Maegor knew how dear his mother's sister had been, and he wanted to honor her memory. Never mind that Aenys had already done so, naming his daughter Rhaenys.

— A beautiful name, - his mother whispered, looking first at him and then at his daughter with warmth.
— Yes, she is beautiful.
