"We are all broken, that's how the light gets in."
— Ernest Hemingway
The last class finally came to an end as I checked the time which read 5:55 pm. The chauffeur was to get me at 6:00 pm which gave me exactly five minutes to pack up and exit the building.
I hurridly brushed past the students as I made my way towards the door of the class. I had just stepped out when I felt warm hands grip my wrist.
I retracted them and almost immediately spun around instinctively raising my fists to punch the bastard when I was met by beautiful surprised hazel eyes staring back at me.
'' You must dislike being touched.'' He mused. I closed my eyes as I exhaled, trying to calm my beating heart before opening them to see Sander staring at me in concern.
''Are you okay? I didn't mean to startle you.'' His smile dropped into a frown. I sighed and shook my head.
''I'm okay.'' I smiled. He wasn't buying it though. ''If you look at me like that then I'll feel bad.'' I pouted. His eyes lit up at the action and he smiled.
''You're adorable when you do that. But I'll believe you if you agree to have lunch with me tomorrow.'' He said with a playful wink.
I pretended to think it over before flashing him a grin. One I haven't done in a long time. I couldn't help it, there was something about him that made me feel ...happy.
His eyes widened for the millionth time today.
''What?'' I asked curiously.
''Nothing. I just love your smile.'' He said sheepishly. The little confession made me feel warm inside.
''Thank you. I love your smile and your infectiously happy personality.'' I said cheekily and his cheeks reddened a bit.
Cute...
''You're something else.'' He muttered under his breath. I still caught it.
''You're heading home now right?'' He asked.
''Yeah I am.'' I replied.
''Cool cool...see you tomorrow then. Hope you get home safe'' He said. He pulled me into a hug. ''sorry I can't help it.'' He whispered into my ear. The mere action sent a shiver down my spine.
I hugged him back this time. He pulled away with a smile. He waved me off and walked away in the opposite direction down the hallway. I stared at his retreating form and wondered if a person could be that nice.
''Not possible. I need to be careful around here.'' I muttered to myself as I spun around and continued down the hallway.
I arrived just in time to see the chauffeur standing next to a black limo. He bowed as soon as he spotted me which caught the attention of some students.
''Good evening miss. Hope you had a great day at school?'' He asked monotonously. He was a tall middle-aged man with dirty blonde hair, dull brown eyes, a curved nose and thin lips.
''Yes I did but can you not bow when you pick me up next time? It makes me uncomfortable.'' I said pleadingly.
''I'm sorry miss but it's a direct order from your grandmother that I cannot disobey.'' He stated.
''Oh.'' I sighed and entered the car.
Direct order? So much for living a normal life.
The ride back home was quiet as the chauffeur wasn't the talking type. I was currently sitting at the desk in my study located within my suite.
