The Start After 

Pete's POV 

The entire time I was driving, Vegas was looking out the window. At the back of the seat, Macau's snores almost drown out the music that was playing on the radio. It's been a few hours since we started our journey. Vegas at first insisted to take the first shift to drive but I wouldn't allow. Not when his arm's is just healing and just got out of the cast. 

The scenic view from our drive now was just mainly stretches of high way roads cutting across many mountains. The city view, of dust, bustling noises and concrete jungle that he and I was used to was long gone. Left behind. Soon enough, we will be arriving at the province of my hometown. All there will be will be nature. How I longed to be back to nature again. 

"Let's go to your place. I want to stay where you used to live. Where your family is at," 

Vegas said when we finally had to talk about our plans moving forward. 

Now that I left my job as the Theerapanyakul family's bodyguard, I really don't have anything in mind what should I do next. Not that I will die of starvation or anything. Master Tankhun gave me a hefty salary payout while crying it was my "marriage dowry". He was a good boss. That money is enough for me to live pretty comfortably for a few years. Provided I don't spend it all on fancy holidays all at once. Plus, it's not that I have to feed Vegas or Macau. After all that happened, Master Kinn and Porsche made sure inheritance that belongs to the now defunct minor family, stays under the name of the minor family. 

Master Kinn and Porsche even made the arrangement to send us money as allowance for the rest of our lives. I don't intend to use that money. I guess I will be saving it for Macau's college fund or wedding fund, whichever comes later. Yeah, I will be co-managing finance with a strict legal and binding contract with Vegas of course. I don't want any troubles if things do turn sour between us since, you can never predict life. 

I mean, who would have thought I would fall for a ex-mafia young master who has lost everything? And who would have thought I would choose to stay with this guy, who once used to torture and did unspeakable things to me for information just because I fell in love with him? 

It was weird love. One that you probably find in dark movies or dramas but this is my life. I love this man. I am willing to give up my life and die for him. I was willing to go with him to the end of earth no matter how broken he was. That was how much I wanted him. Vegas lit a fire in me that will never go away and I will do everything I can to make sure he knew that. If I was his beacon of hope now then he sure be well aware that he was mine too. 

"Are you tired babe?" I snapped out of my thinking when he called out of me, his voice ever so gentle. It was deep and incredibly soothing. His voice was one trait that I thought never suited his mafia life. A mafia shouldn't sound that gentle. That voice shouldn't be put into situations involving violence and blood. 

"I am fine. Do you need a break? I can stop by at the next rest stop?" I offered after seeing a signboard. We will be reaching my province pretty soon. 

Vegas shook his head. "I'm fine too. It's just that you are driving for hours now. I just want to sure you don't tire yourself," he grabbed my free and gave it a squeeze. I brought his to my lips to kiss it. 

"I'm not tired. Promise. We are reaching the province soon. I got the house all ready so we can rest the moment we arrive," I said assuring him as many times as I can. 

Then silence. Probably comfortable for him and awkward for me. 

"Pete?" 

"Hmm?" 

"Thank you for doing this with me," Vegas squeeze my hand as I gave him a quick glance and smiled. "What's with the thanks? I thought you and I are beyond thanks now?"

"It's for your sacrifice," I waited for him to continue. To let him get out of his system. "You didn't have to do this. You could have a normal back there. A good career, a good life, probably a better boyfriend, without any all this dramatical burden nonsense," 

That's it. I slowed down the car and eventually came to a stop. I have to drill this into his head again. Kinda like brainwashing at this point. I stopped by the road side and switched on the emergency signal, just in case you know. 

"Pete...what's goi-," I cupped his face and kissed him, stopping his sentence. 

"Vegas, do you love me?" I cut straight to the point after the kiss. 

"Of-of course I do, very much," Vegas replied taken aback but his handsome smirk appeared. 

"Then what I am doing right now is not a sacrifice. It's a choice. I chose you and I am choosing this life with you. I don't need a better life, better career or a better boyfriend if all those things don't have you in it. So suck it up, I am going to heaven or hell with you or staying on earth, with you. Get it?" 

"Okay...," he smiled. I don't care what anyone says about this man but this man is ridiculously handsome when he smiles genuinely. 

"Good. And we are going to suck it up and start our new lives in my province okay? Nothing fancy but it's fancy enough to keep you and I entertained and for Macau to stay checked until he is like 25," I said. 

"Hey, 25 is to old! Let me out when I am 21 okay," Macau's voice was heard from the back. The three of us broke in a chuckle. 

"Still, thanks babe. I can't say that enough," Vegas cupped my face again and kissed me. If Macau wasn't in the car with us right now, I think we would probably would have stopped for something more intense. 

"And lose the thanks. It's cheesy. Just replace it with you-love-me's if you want to be cheesier," I teased. He caressed my cheek. 

"I love you Pete," 

"I love you too Vegas,"

"Eww...minor here, can you guys like get going and after we arrive, you two can get a room?" 

Great idea. After exchanging pointing tongues at Macau, I started the drive again. 

Yes, it's a start. For my family.
