One week later
It's been a whole week since Travis' world crumbled around him, he had pretty much spent the week hiding away from the world. He was miserable, Taylor was avoiding him, and, honestly, he didn't blame her, but she was all he wanted right now, and it was killing him. The morning after their talk, she had already gone to class by the time he had woken up, and he hadn't seen her since. His heart hurt just thinking about it; she was supposed to be his forever, and now she wants nothing to do with him. His Mother had been calling and texting him all week, trying to get him to come over, so after a back and forth, he finally agreed to go there tonight for dinner. Sighing dejectedly he manages to pull himself out of bed and get ready.
Once he pulls up to his parents' house, he takes a few deep breaths getting himself together, before opening the door and going in. When he gets inside his mother greets him by the door. "Hey, Dear, how have you been?" Donna asks. "Honestly, Ma, I'm not great," Travis admits. Donna pulls him into a hug and says "Oh sweetheart, Kayla told me all about it already. I know having a baby is scary but you guys can get through this. However, there is something I wanted to talk to you about, Travis."
Travis pulled away from the hug, looking up at her, slightly confused; when had Kayla talked to his mom? Why had she? Travis could feel the anger start bubbling up. Kayla was always pulling this shit, and now he can't even tell his own family about what's happening in his life because she has to do it first, so the narrative is always spun in her favor. He was starting to wonder if he ever even liked her at all or if she was just a convenient fuck.
"When did Kayla talk to you Ma?" He asked trying to keep his voice as even as possible. "Last Sunday, she texted me on Saturday night asking if we would have coffee because she really needed someone to talk to. Did she not tell you?" She asked him looking slightly concerned. "No, she most definitely did not tell me. In fact, Saturday was the day she told me she was pregnant in the first place." He said through gritted teeth.
Now he was really starting to get pissed and the fact that she pretty much contacted his mother as soon as she told him had him feeling almost slightly suspicious that she was up to something. He tried his best to shake the thought but he couldn't stop the nagging feeling that something wasn't right here.
"Ma, what exactly did Kayla tell you anyway?" Travis asked her. "She told me that she is pregnant and that you're the father," Donna told him slightly confused about his questioning. "That's it? Anything else?" He asked unconvinced that Kayla hadn't made a huge deal about it all. "Well...she also told me that her parents are very religious and are going to disown her if they find out she is having a baby without being married...oh Travis dear, you should have seen her. She was upset; I just felt awful. Sweetheart, look, I know your relationship with her isn't perfect, but honestly, you can't leave the poor girl like this. You guys need to make it work for the baby, at least." Donna told him, sounding slightly guilty that she hadn't told him everything, but it was obvious that she was also incredibly concerned about Kayla.
Travis just sat there for a moment taking in everything his mother had told him. It didn't make much sense to him, honestly, because as far as he knew, Kayla wasn't even close with her parents. Her dad took off when she was a baby, and her mom spent most of her time sleeping around men who were far too young for her. So he was pretty damn sure that she wasn't what anyone would call religious by any means... something was really not adding up here, and he knew he had to get the bottom of this; the only problem was that there was no way she was going to let anything slip to him. He needs to find someone who is just far enough away from this that Kayla would let her guard down around, but also that he trusted to be honest with him... And he knew exactly who he was going to ask.
