I blushed furiously. "I-I just wanted to h-hang out. B-but your busy, s-so I'll leave you alone."
I turned to leave after fixing my shirt--- which by the way, I'm still blushing about. His arm snakes around my waist, pulling me flush against his chest.
"Where do you think you're going?" He growls in my ear, his lips hot against my neck. A shiver runs down my spine, and something pools in my lower belly. I let out a small whimper and then slap my hand over my mouth.
"I-I'm leaving you," I said. Adonis's hands snap away from my body like I burned him with a scolding hot iron rod. His eyes are wide, panicked.
"What?" His voice is low, quiet, and calm but also holds a hint of... something. Hurt? That's silly why would he be hurt by me leaving him alone to work? "You- you can't leave me?" This statement comes out as a question, his voice taking on a sharper edge.
"But you h-have a lot of work to do?" I question, casting him a confused look.
Immediately, the panic in his eyes soothes, his shoulders release built up tension. He walks towards me and wraps me in his arms again, squeezing tight as if reassuring himself that I was with him.
"Not today I don't," he said, burying his face into my neck and licking the soft skin there.
"O-oh," I whisper. "I-I'm sorry. I d-didn't know."
"It's okay darling," he murmurs, his mouth latching on to my neck. I sound comes out of my mouth that I'm still not used to, even though just a few seconds ago it was coming out of me like crazy.
As his lips trail up my neck, something in the corner of the room catches my eye. "Adonis," I mumble.
"Yes, darling?" His voice is hoarse.
I point at what I'm seeing.
Swirling shadows consuming the light in the room, surrounding us like a plague. Adonis pulls me behind him. Out of the shadows steps a woman, the same woman we saw at the lake a while ago.
"Hello Adonis," her sensual voice glides over us in a soft, sensitive whisper. "Miss me?" she hisses.
"Not particularly," Adonis shrugged. "What to you want, Calanthe?"
Calanthe, the elf's, eyes light up like a greedy kid on Christmas morning. Her malicious chuckle chills my blood. "So you know?"
"What do you fucking want," Adonis snarled, his grip tightening on me.
Calanthe takes a deep breath, treading over to us with an air of confidence. She traces one of her clawed fingers on the bookshelf. "I thought that was obvious."
We stayed silent.
She chuckles. "No? I fucking hate you, Adonis Boulas. I hate everything that you are, your being, your crown, your fucking soul. And maybe you know why I hate you, maybe you don't, but I don't fucking care. I may not be fully here yet, but I will be, and soon. And I will kill your family, slowly, and I will make you watch as I torture them to death. I will burn your kingdom before your eyes as you did to mine oh so many years ago, and I will enjoy it. I will enjoy draining the happiness, hope, love, and light from you."
"I cannot wait to destroy you," she snarled. She was fading into view slowly coming transparent, but the shadow lingered. Her eyes cast to me. "And I cannot wait to kill your precious little mate."
Adonis let out a scary growl and his bones began popping, shifting, forming something else. His back arched, his clothing became mere shreds of fabric. Adonis was shifting.
In his place stood a massive beast, snarling, snapping it's jaws it leapt at Calanthe, but instead of taking her to the ground, he leapt right through. I let out a scream and scurried as far away as I could get.
Something bright lights up the room, though I have no idea where it came from, it makes the shadows recede quickly. But Adonis in his werewolf form is still there.
My body was trembling, and I was unable to stop it. I hugged my knees tighter to my chest. Suddenly, my two dogs were right next to me, growling at Adonis's wolf form. The were poised to spring if need be, but I knew that they would be no match for Adonis.
I tried taking deep breaths, but each of them got stuck in my throat, making me panic more.
Goddess, what the frickitty chicken was wrong with me? I'm so stupid. Why do I get scared of every little thing, why can't I be normal, why am I such a baby, why am I overthinking this, why am I scared of him? What is wrong with me?
Tears slipped from my eyes faster, my breathing very, very, labored.
I could barely see Adonis's outline through my blurry eyes, but I could tell he was coming closer to me. I tried my hardest to stop my trembling, so bottle up my fear, but I just couldn't.
His paws treaded lightly and his breath was warm against my body. A soft whine flowed from his mouth. I couldn't stop shaking. The dogs hadn't stop staring cautiously at Adonis, still poised to attack, but slightly farther away from me now.
He nudged his nose on my hand and licked it lightly. He purred. I sniffled a little and hiccuped. I let Adonis's wolf form trail his nose over my body, licking my neck, my shoulders, and my face.
Slowly but surely, his eyes turned from his new golden eyes to his stunning black eyes. I had to turn away as he shifted back; it was really gross.
"Harper, darling. I didn't mean to scare you," Adonis murmured into his ear. I jumped into his arms.
"It- it's fine," I choked out. Was it?
I felt him shake his head. "It's not. I should have controlled my temper. I shouldn't have tried to attack Calanthe."
"It's f-fine, seriously," I hiccuped. "I-I'm fine."
"You're still shaking," he pointed out.
I shook my head. "I'm j-just c-cold."
He let out a sigh and pulled me closer to him. I snuggled into his warm chest, still shaking slightly for pathetic reasons, and basked in his delicious scent.
"Harper?"
"Y-yes?"
"I'm still naked."
