Once the child had finally been washed gently, John slowly unrolled the cylinder from Sarah's mouth.
The woman then swaddled the newborn baby in a comfortable blanket, its tiny limbs tucked in snugly.
With a gentle sigh, she carefully placed the baby in the thick, white blanket, its soft, delicate skin nestled against the plush fabric.
The woman looked at Sarah, her eyes filled with warmth and understanding.
"You should relax now, Sarah,"
she said softly.
"Your baby is safe and sound. You need rest to regain your strength.
Let me take care of everything."Sarah, her face pale but her eyes filled with a mixture of relief and exhaustion, nodded weakly.
She felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her, the adrenaline that had been coursing through her veins finally receding.
As the woman settled her into a comfortable position, Sarah closed her eyes, her body finally yielding to the overwhelming need for sleep.
The bearded man, sensing the tension slowly dissipating, cleared his throat, the sound sharp and deliberate.
John, his gaze still fixed on the newborn, turned his head slowly, meeting the bearded man's eyes.
"I believe,"
the bearded man began, his voice low and gravelly,
"we have something to discuss. Intruder."
His gaze was unwavering, his words laced with distrust and a firmness that left no room for misinterpretation.
The air crackled with unspoken threats, the quiet tension in the room a palpable presence.
John, his face a mask of stoicism, met the bearded man's challenge head-on, his own eyes hardening with a mixture of defiance and uncertainty.
"R-right... alright... I'll be there. I just want to see my ch-"
John began, his voice trembling slightly, but he was cut off mid-sentence.
The bearded man, his gaze unwavering, raised a hand, silencing John's protest.
"You already saw the child,"
he said, his voice flat and emotionless.
"Let's go outside. Now."
The command was clear, leaving no room for argument.
John, his shoulders slumping under the weight of the bearded man's authority, knew resistance was futile.
He nodded silently, his gaze dropping to the floor, and followed the bearded man out of the room, the image of the newborn baby still fresh in his mind.
Once both men were outside, Daniel, the older brother, followed the bearded man, his steps purposeful and determined.
Adrian, the younger brother, wanted to witness the unfolding events, perhaps even offer his help, but Daniel stopped him by blocking the door with his muscled body.
"Don't even think about it,"
Daniel said, his voice low and urgent.
"We don't know this man, and if something happens, you protect Mom and Kai."
His eyes held a steely glint, leaving no room for argument.
"Oh, c'mon!"
Adrian protested, his voice tinged with frustration.
"Just do it already!"
Daniel snapped, his patience wearing thin.
"Ugh... But I don't want to!"
Adrian whined, his voice laced with a hint of fear.
"If you don't stop whining like a girl, I'll snap your head off!"
Daniel growled, his voice laced with a dangerous edge.
Adrian, sensing the seriousness of the situation and the raw anger simmering beneath Daniel's words, fell silent.
He knew better than to push his luck.
Daniel, with a final glance at the woman and the newborn child resting on the mattress, turned back to his brother.
"And... try to keep an eye on the woman and the child,"
he instructed, his voice softening slightly.
"Just in case."
Adrian, despite his reluctance, nodded, his gaze fixed on the woman and the new baby lay.
He knew he had to trust his older brother, even if he didn't like it.
