"but I can be independent without going to highschool" I said
"That's not all true. School helps us to prepare in all aspect in life not just the damned books. Why do you hate school so much?" Drina asked thoughtfully. I replied straight up
"When I was in school,I feel too pressured in gaining teachers approval and for the record, kids are mostly rebellious. If you don't join them, they think you're not cool"
Drina gave a snazzy smile.
Literally, we've been best friends since we were both little kids. I was riding my bicycle on Christmas day at a park where I and Sophie had gone to have fun.
Sophie had left me and gone with her friends to see a movie. I stayed behind being the introvert when four naughty boys came and started their thing: bullying. They took my bike away from me. I cried for them to leave me alone but they bullied me more taking my glasses off and my sight reduced drastically. It's been over 7 yrs but I can still remember how Drina showed up with her brother, Justin Porter. For the brief moment I watched the siblings fight for me, I thought the blonde haired one was a boy but then after helping me out and giving me my bike, one introduced himself as Justin Porter and the other one - Alexandrina Porter. That moment I still had my doubts. The two ran off after promising to come back later.
Funny as it sounds, I had a huge crush on Drina till we crossed 10 😂 and I realized she was a girl!
I realized she was a girl on her birthday party. Drina hated birthdays but her mom had insisted she had one.
"Hey Alex - what're you wearing?" I'd asked when I arrived at the party and she rocked this girlie stiletto and floral gown.
"Oh please tell me I look awful" Drina had whined eyeing the dress. I had to laugh for a while cuz I was hotly surprised.
"Yes. You look incredibly awful. Why're you putting on a girl's clothes?" I'd spewed chewing on my lower lip trying not to laugh.
" Mom got it for me "
"Girls clothes?"
"What? Why're you so surprised 'bout it?"
"Alex, guys don't wear girls clothes. It makes them look silly!" I spewed at her, eyes wide.
"Amberlie, I'm girl "my eyes too open 👀 and I said a "what!!!""Berlie you are not here are you?" Drina's voice pierced my thoughts as I looked at her.
"Simply having some flashbacks on how you saved me from those bullies " I said smiling. She chuckled.
"I've forgotten all of that. I bet you've got the brain "
"It was just a flashback!" I blurted in defense.
I knew where she was heading to. I smirked then adjusted my glasses properly
"Back to what we were discussing. You said I've gotta attend highschool to be confident" I said.
"Yea. Thought you wanted freedom."
"Independence!"
"Oh man you're confusing.. I actually came here to tell you 'bout a lush apartment I found in Quinn's" she said wryly.
"Really?"
"Yes and don't ask me. It's cool you should see for yourself. I think you'll love it though. It suits your girlie sense" I chuckled softly at what she said
"Drina, I'm afraid dad won't let me live on my own. He literally thinks I'm too young and won't be able to fend for myself " I said sadly feeling the stress up my shoulders.
" Can't help with that girl. He's your dad. You've gotta obey him"
"This is no fair!"
"No it's dark "
" It's no joke Drina "
"It's hilarious "
"Stop! You've had enough of your laughs. He won't stop me. All I need is a plan" I said more thoughtfully to myself.
"A plan to do what?"
"Pack out of course!"
" Drina's eyes widened in surprise.
"That's cowardice. You have a long way to go. Convince your dad
He loves you and I'm pretty sure he'll allow you do your thing"
"I hope so" I murmured relaxing my back into the couch with a long sigh.
Drina stood up as she dragged her feet towards the door.
"I'm leaving. Justin must be starving." She yawned tiredly with blurred eyes.
" Just admit you're hungry " I said out to her as I watched her go through the exit. At that instant I made it upstairs to Sophie's room.
"Sophie you in?" I asked shortly.
"It's opened freak"
Mm, sounds like Sophie. She always calls me that. 'freak'
I pushed the door open and got on.
She sat up as I approached and sat close to her on the bed.
" Still awake " she said startly.
"You ain't sleeping either " I said as she rubbed her eyes with the back of her palm.
"I was freak before you interrupted with the bang on my door. What do you want now?" She threw at me as I slapped a smile across my face and replied
"Drina came by. She talked 'bout and apartment she found for me in Quinns " I was excited. Sophie cuts in with a slurr
" I'm so sick and damn tired of your whole moving out shit. Stop being a dweeb. How can you live on your own when you can't even attend highschool"
I frowned giving her a look then rolled my eyes.
"What's high school gotta do with this?" I asked. Really, I can't understand! Anytime I I mentioned 'moving out' , she brings up the high school issues just like Drina. She's just like Drina!
"A lot kiddo. Alot." She replied.
Heck. I hated it when she calls me kiddo. I mean, she's just 3 yrs older 😒
"Tell me really Soph. What's high school like?" At this question, I saw her eyes litin excite, all the sleep vanishing from them.
"High school's fun. It's more than what you're imagining"'You don't know what I'm imagining ' I said in my mind scowling.
" Positively though." Sophie added as if reading my mind.
"You get to make great friends and general, you'll be street wise"What?! Just that? Argh! That's silly. I thought there was something more exciting. My oldest sister, Kimberly had once described school as a jungle
Hm, I was expecting something a lot like that. One thing Sophie was good at was praising her school life.
"Highschool's boring"
"No. You're boring." She corrected and I huffed blowing a strand of my hair off my face.
"Drina enjoys my company." I pointed out
"Only Drina does. No one else does cuz you're sickly boring to the core and demure to the extreme"What???! My eyes flamed
" Dad enjoys company and -"
She cuts in
"Dad has no choice cuz you're his baby daughter. Mom doesn't enjoy your company, Kim doesn't enjoy your company and, I obviously, do not, enjoy your company. Comeon Amberlie can't you understand? I don't role with bookworms with dweeb clothes and nonsense glasses "
"I'm not a book worm. I'm a writer!" I blurted as she scoffed.
" Still has something to do with the books." She pointed out then straightened up "look sis you seriously gat to attend highschool. It's so silly and weird how you love the indoors. Doesn't it irks you?" She asked with unusual irritation.
"Indoor life-"
" Sucks!"
Actually, that's not what I was going to say.
"Indoor life doesn't suck. It's peaceful and calm and sweetly quiet and I think I'll have enough peace and quiet when I move outta this house" I said glancing over the roof ignoring the odd look Sophie was aiming at me.
" Peace n quiet " she mocked with grimace. I know it kinda sucks for her cuz she had always enjoyed and loved the outdoors.
" How long will it take for me to convince you hm?"
I thought for a while then sighed heavily.
High school, high problem.
I know it'll be fun me meeting other kids my age but what about those teachers! Their unending homeworks and mean scoldings. I can't...
" Amberlie!"
I felt a tap on my left thigh and jolted.
" I called twice dumb "
I winced frowning as I rubbed the area she had hit me.
" Nothing's gonna convince me. " I muttered.
Sophie let out a funny laugh.
" You're scared "
"No I'm -"
" Admit Amber. You're a freak just as i'd guessed " She blurted as I pout and folded my arms .
" Still resolute" I stated firmly and she laughed.
She laid back on the bed still smiling.
" Cheating's also fun. You don't get to crack your brain for anything all you just gotta do is scrabble your answer in a sheet of paper and hide them in your underwear"
I frowned " you're horrible" I mumbled
" No. I'm clever" she said with smug
" What ever" I still wasn't smiling.
"Hey!" Sophie excitedly sat up as if she suddenly remembered something.
"You didn't even bother to ask me 'bout the guys. Oh my gosh they're so cute!" She blushed. I stared.
I rolled my eyes.
"Yea. Not all of them" I stated
" Bayside High has a lot of them If you ask me" She winked at me.
Bayside High? Drina studied there but had never told me 'bout any cute guy so far. Well she barely showed those kind of interest actually. She doesn't acknowledge good looking guys. As for Justin, he's smoochy looking and kind of a lady's man you know...
He's really charming. Really.
"Bayside High's a popular school. I don't like popular schools. Maybe I could study in Oakhills".
Sophie cuts in "you mean the mean teachers spot"
Mean teachers spot? I blinked.
"Amberlie if you go to highschool, I'll help you on moving out"
My eyes lit.
"You sure?"I asked
"Darn sure" She was smiling
Hmm...
I'm nervous but she was the only one who was always successful in convincing our dad.
"Alright. I'm in" I murmured.
She gave a smug smile
"You won't regret"
"I bet I won't" I cutin still not pleased.
I've only one choice.( ani syra)
