The Night Hunt Begins

Yeah, nothing beats a nap in a tree.

I woke up with a start, the cool night air brushing against my face. Darkness had fully settled over the camp, and for the first time in hours, I felt truly rested. The silence was eerie, but it was the good kind of quiet. The kind that meant I had a chance to move without being detected. The kind that made ambushes so much easier.

Let the games begin.

I stretched out my limbs, careful not to make too much noise, and checked my surroundings. My traps were still set, the tree held strong, and my trident was nearby, hidden within arm's reach. The stars twinkled in the sky above, but down here, on the ground? This was where the real darkness lay—the kind you could use to your advantage.

I climbed down slowly, sticking to the shadows. My muscles were stiff, but I could feel that familiar adrenaline buzz creeping back in as I dropped silently onto the forest floor. I wasn't stupid. I knew the camp was probably crawling with enemies by now. And with Ares on the warpath, Athena hiding who-knows-where, and Hermes people still unaccounted for, I couldn't afford to let my guard down.

Time to hunt.

I moved cautiously, keeping low and scanning the area as I crept through the trees. That's when I heard it: footsteps, not far off. Quiet, but not quiet enough.

Gotcha.

I stayed hidden, watching as the figure came into view, creeping toward Apollo's cabin. One lone person. Their footsteps were hesitant, like they weren't sure what they were walking into.

Big mistake, buddy.

I readied my trident, moving silently through the underbrush until I was just behind them. The moonlight reflected off their blond hair, and I instantly recognized the sun symbol stitched into the back of their shirt. Apollo cabin.

Well, this just got interesting.

With a sudden burst of speed, I lunged out of the shadows, my trident aimed squarely at their back. I slammed the butt of it into their spine, hard enough to send them sprawling onto the ground before they could react.

"Wait! Wait!" The Apollo kid scrambled, trying to push himself up, but I wasn't in the mood for mercy. I slammed my foot down on his back, pinning him to the ground.

Me: "Not so fast. We're gonna have a little chat first."

He was breathing hard, trembling beneath my foot as I leaned down, pressing the trident closer to his neck.

Me: "You're gonna answer a few questions. Then we'll see what happens."

His breath hitched, fear radiating off him in waves. "Wh-What do you want to know?"

Everything, really, but let's start small.

I crouched down, keeping my foot on his back, and angled the trident's prongs closer to his face. "First off, Hermes. Where are they?"

The Apollo kid let out a shaky breath, his face pale in the moonlight. "Th-They're gone."

Me: "Gone?"

"Gone! Eliminated! There's no one left from Hermes."

I blinked, momentarily caught off guard. Hermes? Gone? How did that happen? They were the sneakiest cabin, always the last to go down.

Well, guess I don't have to worry about them anymore.

I pushed down harder with my foot, making him wince. "And Athena's cabin?"

"They're hiding. We don't know where," he said quickly, voice shaky. "Not even we do. They came to us and then disappeared. No one knows where they are now."

Clever, but cowardly.

Typical Athena.

"Alright," I said, easing up just a bit. "What about Ares? Where are they holed up?"

The Apollo kid's eyes darted nervously as he hesitated. I could see him weighing whether or not to tell me. But a quick nudge from the trident made up his mind.

"They've taken over the north side of the camp," he blurted out. "They're guarding the borders, waiting for anyone to come near."

Of course they are.

The north side was perfect for Ares. It was high ground, giving them the advantage of seeing any attack coming. They'd dug in, preparing for a siege while picking off anyone dumb enough to get too close.

I looked down at the Apollo kid, who was still trembling beneath me, and smirked. "What about your cabin? Where's the rest of your people?"

He pressed his lips together, clearly unwilling to give that information up. His eyes narrowed with a defiant look, the kind that said I'll die before I betray them.

Admirable, but dumb.

"Last chance," I said, pressing the trident a little deeper. He stayed silent, shaking his head. Stubborn.

Me: "Fine. Suit yourself."

With a quick, decisive movement, I drove the trident forward, the sharp prongs sinking into his chest with a sickening thud. He gasped, eyes wide with shock and pain, as I twisted the weapon, ensuring the hit was fatal enough that people need to immediately get him out of here. Which to be honest wasn't really hard plus ambrosia should heal him up..

Me: "Thanks for the info."

I pulled the trident out with a swift jerk, watching as his body went limp on the ground. His bracelet flickered red, signaling his elimination. One less Apollo camper to worry about.

Easy.

Wiping the blood from my trident, I stood up, scanning the area again. So, Hermes was gone. Athena's cabin was hiding like cowards. And Ares? They were exactly where I expected them to be, waiting to crush anyone foolish enough to take them on.

Good thing I'm not just anyone.

I kicked the Apollo kid's body to the side, stepping over him as I melted back into the shadows. The night was still young, and I had plenty of work to do. The hunt wasn't over yet.

Let's see who else is feeling brave tonight.
