Recape: Here’s a recap of Part 3:
After the incident where orange juice spilled on Kaning’s dress, she went to the washroom to clean it. Upon returning, she witnessed the same woman from earlier collapse unconscious. Without hesitation, Kaning, alongside her senior colleague, quickly rushed the woman to the hospital in Kaning’s car. During the tense ride, Kaning administered oxygen to the woman, doing everything she could to stabilize her.
Once they arrived at the hospital, the woman was rushed into surgery and diagnosed with a brain tumor. The procedure was difficult and faced complications, especially when it became challenging to find a suitable blood match. However, despite these hurdles, the surgery was eventually successful, though the woman’s condition remained critical, requiring close observation.
After the surgery, Kaning, emotionally and physically drained, made eye contact with Kavin, who had been anxiously waiting. In that quiet moment, they rekindled their conversation, breaking the silence that had grown between them after their breakup, as they stood together, silently reflecting on the event that had brought them back into each other’s lives.

The minutes felt like hours as Kavin and his parents waited anxiously outside the hospital's ICU. The air was thick with tension, and every distant sound made them flinch with hope or dread. Kavin’s father paced back and forth while his mother sat silently, her hands clasped tightly together in prayer. Though Kavin stood nearby, trying to stay composed, his heart raced as his thoughts wandered back to the grandfather, the rock of their family, now fighting for his life.
Suddenly, the doors to the operating room swung open, and Kaning emerged, her face pale but calm after hours inside the surgery. As she approached, Kavin stood up straight, his parents following suit, all their focus trained on her. “The surgery was successful,” Kaning announced, her voice a mix of exhaustion and relief.
A wave of emotion washed over Kavin’s parents, his mother’s knees buckling slightly from the overwhelming relief. Kavin gently steadied her, his own heart filled with gratitude. But before the family could fully relax, Kaning continued, “However, he is still in critical condition. We’ve moved him to the ICU for constant monitoring. The next 24 hours will be crucial for his recovery.”
Their relief was tempered by the gravity of her words. The family followed Kaning’s directions and moved toward the ICU, where Kavin’s grandfather now lay. His face, normally so full of life and energy, was pale and weak, the machines around him humming with life-sustaining sounds. The sight was almost too much for Kavin’s mother, who wiped away fresh tears as she sat by his side, holding her husband’s hand tightly.
Though hours had passed since the surgery, the weight of uncertainty kept the family in a constant state of anxiety. They had been too nervous to eat or rest. Kaning, who had been making her rounds in the hospital, noticed their weary faces as she passed by the waiting area. Compassionate and thoughtful as always, she quietly slipped away to the hospital’s canteen and returned with a tray of warm food and drinks. Though Kavin’s parents initially refused, Kaning gently insisted.
“You need your strength. He’s fighting, and you need to be strong for him,” she said softly, her words a gentle nudge to help them take care of themselves.
Kavin joined her encouragement, quietly adding, “Mom, Dad, please eat something. We’re not going to be any help to him if we collapse ourselves.”
Reluctantly, his parents took the food, and though it was a small gesture, it helped lift some of the heaviness in the room. Kavin caught Kaning’s eyes as she turned to leave, giving her a grateful nod that spoke more than words could express. She smiled softly and continued with her duties.
The next morning, Kavin’s parents sat in the hospital cabin, still weary but more hopeful. The hours felt endless, but they remained vigilant, waiting for the moment they could speak to Kavin’s grandfather again. Their quiet vigil was interrupted when Kavin’s friends, Thyme, Dew, and Tibet, arrived to show their support. The group exchanged hugs and updates as Kavin took them aside to fill them in on his grandfather’s condition.
As the friends waited outside, the tension inside the hospital cabin finally broke. Kavin’s grandfather, after hours of unconsciousness, slowly opened his eyes, blinking as he tried to focus. Kavin’s mother gasped, her hand flying to her mouth as tears of relief streamed down her cheeks. His father exhaled deeply, visibly relaxing for the first time since the surgery. Kaning, alerted by the commotion, rushed into the room to check on him. She moved quickly but carefully, checking his vitals and ensuring everything was normal.
After a few moments, she looked up at the family with a calm smile. “He’s stable now, but he still needs a lot of rest. His body has been through a lot, and the recovery process will be slow.”
Kavin’s parents exchanged looks of immense relief. The weight they had been carrying for days seemed to finally lift, if only a little. His mother leaned forward, gently taking her husband’s hand, and whispered a prayer of thanks.
Just then, Kavin’s grandmother, who had been a quiet observer during much of the ordeal, stepped forward. She was a woman of tradition and deep values, and although she had initially held reservations about Kaning—largely due to rumors and judgments about her past—her heart had softened through this experience. She had seen Kaning’s dedication and how deeply she cared for Kavin’s grandfather and the family.
The grandmother turned to Kaning with a gentle but serious expression. “I have to admit,” she began softly, “when we first met you, I wasn’t sure. I judged you because of things I’d heard, and I am sorry for that. But today, I have seen your true character. You saved my husband’s life, and for that, I am grateful beyond words.”
Kaning, always humble, tried to brush off the praise. “I was just doing my job,” she said, smiling modestly. But the gratitude in the grandmother’s eyes was unwavering.
The grandmother stepped forward and placed her hand on Kaning’s head, a traditional gesture of blessing in their culture. “May you always be blessed for your kindness and for the life you’ve given back to our family,” she whispered.
Kavin watched the scene unfold, his heart swelling with pride and something deeper, an emotion he hadn’t fully allowed himself to feel for a long time. As the family gathered around his recovering grandfather, Kavin’s gaze met Kaning’s, and in that moment, he knew their bond had deepened in ways neither of them had anticipated.
Though the road to recovery would be long, and many challenges still lay ahead, the family now had hope. And through that shared experience of fear and healing, their relationships, especially Kavin and Kaning’s, had grown stronger. This moment was more than just about saving a life—it was about rebuilding trust forming new bonds, and healing in every sense of the word.
